  1. Review of Literature My review of literature consists of many

features such as, researching about early cosmetics in order to get a better understanding of the Beauty and Cosmetic Industry. While researching these topics I discovered that the beauty and cosmetic industries are not always what they seem to be. Throughout intense research I found out that cosmetics contain many unwanted chemicals and or items.
  2. Hypothesis My hypothesis states that both Lavender and Peppermint oil

can be used on the body in aromatherapy. I believed that Lavender would give more of an effect on students stress levels than Peppermint. After my experiment was done my statement was proved.
  3. Experimental Design (variables) Variables: ◦ Dependent- The dependent variable is

the levels of stress ◦ Independent- The independent variable is the Lavender and Peppermint oil. ◦ Constants- My constants are the amount of time students are given to relax during the experiment ◦ Control- My control group are the students that do not receive aromatherapy during stressful days
  4. Experimental Design (materials) Materials: • Two Straws • 9.86 ml

of epsom salt(2 teaspoons) • 4.93ml essential Lavender oil(1 teaspoon) • 4.93ml Essential Peppermint oil(1 teaspoon) • Carrier: Olive oil 14.79(1 tablespoon) • Two Jars
  5. Making The Scrub 1. Two 8oz jars 2. Use 9.86ml

of Epsom salt (2 teaspoons) 3. Label jar as Lavender scrub 4. Add Epsom salt to jar one 5. Add 4.93ml of essential Lavender oil (1 teaspoons) 6. Add 14.79ml (1 tablespoon)of Olive oil to jar 7. Stir all thoroughly 8. Finally repeat steps with Peppermint scrub
  6. Scrub 1(Peppermint) 1. Wet your hands with lukewarm water. 2.

Once done wetting apply 4.39ml of peppermint on to your hand and scrub lightly. 3. Then inhale the peppermint scent. 4. Next wash off completely and dry off. 5. Finally enjoy a restful night of sleep.
  7. Scrub 2(Lavender) 1. Wet your hands with lukewarm water. 2.

Once done wetting apply 4.39ml of lavender on to your hands and scrub lightly. 3. Then inhale the lavender scent. 4. Next wash off completely and dry off. 5. Finally enjoy a restful night.
  8. Data Analysis The objective of this experiment was to figure

out which herb peppermint or lavender can help reduce the amount of stress levels a student endures during schools days. A positive trend that is present in the data is that lavender was more effective in decreasing the test subjects heart rate than peppermint. In accordance to my sample size of 10, my total population of 94, and 70% of my sample size reflecting a heart rate decrease with the use of lavender, my confidence interval would be approximately 14.
  9. Conclusion Before concluding my experiment I hypothesized that lavender could

lower ones heart rate more efficiently than peppermint. After testing I saw that my hypothesis was correct, lavender did the most with overcoming stressor. Later the data I collected helped support my hypothesis making what I stated correct. I can prove this because the mean for peppermint is 22.4 and for lavender it is 28.2. The average change in heart rate after the use of the scrubs, was higher for lavender than for peppermint by 5.8 points.
