Of all the sequences I did on "Smurfs: Lost Village", this one stayed closest to the final film, probably because it was assigned to me late in the production when the overall story was nailed down. Still, I was afforded a lot of leeway when it came to infusing humor and pathos into the pages. For example, I added Papa Smurf bringing Smurfette a Smurfberry Pie as a peace offering. While not in the script, I thought the pie could act as an emotional bribe Papa is employing to say he's sorry. I'm always trying to find those delicate moments where I can weave in a prop or a specific action to punctuate the underlying emotion.
