Jealousy

Criminal Kaz asks his righthand woman Inej to join him on a heist to pose as a mistress of an ambassador they are trying to expel. But under the surface, Inej struggles to understand why Kaz has asked her to join on the mission, while Kaz refuses to admit his true feelings for her.

Background:
This storyboard is based on a Six of Crows fanfiction called "Serves You Right" by LinearA published on Archive of Our Own. Six of Crows is a fantasy YA series about teenagers who go on heists. I adapted Chapter 5 which is a key scene where Kaz has a moment of jealousy as he allows Inej to pose as a wife of another man.

38. Inej: “If Fasfadar is going to murder the Queen. Why doesn’t the prince of Fjerda just summon Ambassador Fasfador to return back.”
39. Kaz: “The prince doesn’t want to appear weak to Ravka.”
40. Inej: “What if I were to kill Fasfadar? The Queen would be saved from his assassination.”
41. Kaz: No. It won’t come to that. I can’t have you do that.
42. Kaz: “All we need you to do is have you be seen. We need to convince everyone you are Fasfadar’s mistress. Once Fjerda sees you as his mistress, they’ll see he has succumbed to Ravkan decadence. They’ll want to expel him bc he’s unreliable as a Fjerdan ambassador to Ravka.”
43. Inej: “You found a way to rid of him without killing him. Maybe you do have morals.”

45. *sung* “Where should my heart go when my heart is wandering? To my duty, to my people, to my love?”

62. Kaz: “The man gives something - currency, land - in exchange for the marriage”

129. Wylan: “I’ll challenge him to a duel. We both get thrown out of the country for illegal fighting…”
130. Wylan: “...and Ravkan agents can discover the incriminating evidence in Fasfadar’s trunk when he packs.”
133. Inej: “What’s the rest of the plan?”
134. Kaz: “We already had someone start a rumour that Fasfadar has become corrupted.”
135. Kaz: “Two days later a very pretty women arrives at a hotel Fasfadar is staying at. That’s our Inej!”
136. Kaz: “She may seem like a kept woman. But an observer would notice her for who she is - a spy. Then of course, she goes to the opera. A Kerch merchant will claim to be her husband”
137. Kaz: “The Fjerdans will break into his rooms and find several love letters, sealed with Fasfadar’s personal seal.”
138. Inej: “It… will look like he was seduced by a spy.”
139. Kaz: “Worse, it will look like he’s turned. The Fjerdans will find a letter where Fasfadar agrees to be expelled. The Queen will be saved from his assassination. Mission complete.”
140. Wylan: “This is my hotel”
141. Wylan: “Goodnight, sweetheart.”
144. Inej: “Why didn’t you tell me about Wylan.”
145. Kaz: “It’s quite difficult to play two roles at once. Even for accomplished actors - even if one role is yourself.”
146. Inej: “And what second role is my Kerch servant playing?”
147. Kaz: “If they’re stupid… a member of your husband’s household. If they’re… smart, a Kerch agent.”
149. Inej: “And the rest?” Kaz: “There isn’t anymore”
150. Inej: “You said you had a plan if I refused to go downstairs. Kaz (O.S): “I would just follow you.”
151. Inej: “And then what? Why me, Kaz? There’s nothing on the job you couldn’t have done yourself.”
152. Kaz: “No, it had to be you.”
153. Inej: “There’s still something you’re not telling me.”
154. Kaz: “You’re angry with me. But your emotions aren’t relevant. Slap me in the lobby if you like. You can be angry as long as Fasfadar is incriminated.”
