  10. Today, we are beginning to work on your life, learning

and career plan. Some things to keep in mind … This plan is a work in progress – it’s not like we make this plan today and during your one-on-one follow-up session, and that’s it. It’s something we’ll return to again and again, updating it as you make progress. In fact, it may change over time, and we’ll make any adjustments to it that are necessary. Remember, this is a plan developed with YOUR goal in mind. It is YOUR plan, so it is highly individualized. In fact, while some of you may have similar goals and plans, no two will be exactly alike.
  11. Part of what we want to accomplish is to help

you “find your strong” – not only your personal strength, but your areas of academic strength and your areas of personal interest. These are things you need to consider as you begin to think about what kind of career. (And yes – we’re saying career – we want to help you find something you really enjoy and are skilled at doing that can help you make a living wage. Remember – no more dead- end jobs!)

some learning accommodations, such as: Fidgets Chewing gum Colored filters Visors You may qualify for testing accommodations, such as: Extra time Extra breaks Separate testing space

You will need to be given the green light to take GED Ready™ test modules. You may even be qualified to take one or more GED Ready™ test based upon your TABE assessment results, so do your best on it!
  15. Test Anxiety? Here are some relaxation tips. 1. Take a

quick mental break – look up and around, then go back to your paper. 2. Make two fists and clench them really tight. Count to 7 and let go. Do this 3-5 times and you’ll feel the tension leave your body. 3. Rub the curls on your ears for several seconds. (Works on cats too! ☺) Homework tip: If you are doing homework and get frustrated, walk away for a little while, and then come back. If you still don’t understand, mark your work and put it away until you come back and get help.
  16. Tricks and Tips These are just a few tricks we

have learned over the years. Color overlays may help you see your work better. Water keeps the brain hydrated. Peppermint, cinnamon, and lemon all stimulate the brain. Manipulatives might help you concentrate better. Write anything important on note cards so you can review anytime. Highlighters make important information stand out. You can borrow things from the student center to use here, but please put them back when you’re through
  17. Several Options for Learning Small class instruction –You can work

with several other students in a class setting. Individualized instruction –You can work with an instructor one-on-one. Distance learning –You can come in, work with an instructor, and then take homework home. When you finish your work, you can come back in, get your questions answered and get more work. Online learning – If you have access to high speed internet, you can several online programs. Combination of everything.
  18. So, what if I do not pass the tests? If

you pass some sections and not others, you only have to retake the sections you do not pass! You will need to come back to the center, brush up, and retake the Official Practice Test in the sections you are retaking. We will help you sign up with a test site and each section you retake will cost $10 each.
  19. Where do you go to take the GED test? Local

Community and Technical College Online Proctoring (at home) Other test sites within different counties
  20. Can I get into college with the GED? YES!!!! The

GED certificate is accepted by about 95% of U.S. colleges and universities. GED graduates are also eligible for most federal financial aid programs provided they meet other criteria. It is VERY important that GED graduates take the ACT test right after earning the GED.
  21. How long will this take me? There is no easy

answer. It depends on the following questions: What are your goals? What are your skills? How motivated are you? How much time can you devote to this? How do you learn? The only answer we can give you is that it is different for each person.
