  1. Water Cooler Conversation vol.96 1 Playing with Even G2 +

IoT (and a bit of GenAI) Seigo Tanaka / 1ft-seabass
  2. Seigo Tanaka Running "1ft-seabass" I have been a freelancer since

2004. I mostly build interactive content — Flash in the past, web frontend now. Recently, I focus on where information meets interface. So I also work with generative AI, IoT, and XR. And I really like wombats. 4
  3. The basic setup Even G2 sends MQTT over WebSocket to

Node-RED. Node-RED sends it to an external MQTT broker, and the broker controls the IoT LED. 6
  4. Now, let's control the IoT device from Even G2! MQTT

keeps the state in sync, so the simulator and the real device move together. I hope this makes it easy to follow! 7
  5. Things I struggled with I had many problems along the

way. Mixing IoT always brings surprises. 8
  6. MQTT was hard work Mixing web knowledge and IoT knowledge

    — still learning Because of browser / WebView limits, I use MQTT over WebSocket to connect Even G2 to MQTT. The docs did not clearly explain the network whitelist format. So I tested on the real device. For now, I register both ws:// and http://. I want to check this properly later. After adding IoT, updates became more frequent and the glasses display got slow. A 120ms debounce fixed it. Right now, I bridge internal MQTT to external MQTT. If I find an MQTT service that supports MQTT over WebSocket well, I could make the whole thing simpler. 9
  7. IoT: lots of trial and error Many small problems, one

by one It worked in the simulator, but not on the real device. This happened many times. But I kept going. My understanding of startup events and tap detection was a bit wrong. So I added some defensive code. I just need to read the docs more carefully. Tailscale VPN made it easy to connect everything as a personal app. If many people used this app, I would need better infrastructure and auth. But for now, I'm just having fun. When MQTT state sync worked well, the simulator and the real device moved together. Suddenly, it was much easier to show what was happening. 10
  8. One more thing I've been trying... Real-time voice transcription with

    Even G2 + OpenAI That's a story for another time! 11
  9. Wrap-up There is still a bridge in the middle, but

Even G2 and IoT are connected. Connection first! Crossing between web tech and IoT tech taught me a lot. I will keep having fun with Even G2 + IoT — and whatever comes next! 12
