  2. 2 Chairman’s Note Dear Members, Warm Greetings from IARF South

Asia Coordinating Council! I’m honored to present our Annual Report of the year 2012-13, covering the highlights of activities during the period of April 2012 to March 2013. I thank my colleagues for their valuable contribution to the works of IARF SACC. I whole heatedly extend my gratitude to our donors and well wishers who generously supported us. This year members of SACC could make rapport with several educational institutions, governmental institutions, Organizations and eminent personalities of local, state, national and international levels to organize various programs. This year brought lots of good opportunities to IARF to show its presence in regional, national and international interfaith arena. SACC could deal with burning issues like nuclear proliferation, human rights violation, and violence against women, economic injustice, and many other issues of the time. Along with many civil societies SACC could work for Sustainable Development in various levels. Importantly, SACC could build a bridge to many of unreached remote areas of South Asia and even some other regions of African continent like Malawi and Kenya. In terms of resources, SACC has been supported by IARF HQ and RKK Japan. We are indebted to RKK for the generous donation given to Human Rights Education Project in India. We appreciate and highly value the constant support demonstrated by one and all in various capacities. In this occasion I extend my gratitude to the International Council Members, SACC Board Members, RKK and all other well wishers of IARF for the support given to the furtherance of IARF’s activities in South Asia. 10. 10 2.7. Chairman’s Participation at UN Conference on Sustainable Development

(Rio+20) Dr. Thomas Mathew, Chairman IARF SACC represented IARF at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) at the Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from 20-22 June 2012. The Rio+20 was blessed by the delegation from around 106 Heads of the Nations, Diplomats, Ministers, Political leaders, Nobel Laureates, Non Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and Major Groups. Around 45000 participants representing 188 Governments and 9856 civil societies (NGOs) across the world attended. IARF had represented the UN Earth Summit held in the year 1992, and this was another great opportunity for IARF to make its presence active. Chairman got the final signal to attend the conference relatively belated, fortunately he got the visa, ticket and accommodation on time. He was reluctant to attend the Conference because of the high costs of the flight ticket and accommodation. Thanks to Rev. Takahiro Miwa for his support to Chairman’s flight fare and his son Sandeep for his support to arrange his one week stay in Rio. Most of the side events, organized by the Non Government Organizations and Major Groups held outside of the Rio Conference Centre with the participation of thousands of activists and independent think tanks. Nations, represented by their heads or others like Ministers shared their opinions one by one and the audience carefully watched. Some were with new ideas; some were with requests and others with provocative thoughts. There were lot of dissatisfactions among the civil society delegates concerning the absence of leaders like US President and German Chancellor, who are the powerful political and industrial nation’s leaders of present-day world. Few peaceful demonstrations were allowed inside the conference centre like indigenous peoples’ issues, Fukishima Nuclear problems etc. There are various observations and remarks about the Rio +20 Conference. Chairman felt that there were not enough rooms for religions and enough enthusiasm to take them into the confidence for the future course of actions of the Rio+20 UN summit on sustainable development. Chairman had carried 500 new brochures of IARF to distribute. Few he handed over to the delegates personally, the rest were placed near the reception desk. Surprisingly by the end of the second day, all were finished and hope our brochures might have helped some of them to know about IARF. In fact, IARF has successfully represented at the Rio+20 Summit and being recognized by the likeminded organizations of the United Nations family. IARF also succeeded to be invited to take part of discussions at the highest level of the Conference.
