  1. CONTRAINDICATIONS: WAXING You should not wax a client if: They

are using Accutane, retin-a, antibiotics, strong glycolics or other very active skin care, benzoyl peroxide (i.e. ProActiv), or have used nair on the area within the past week. Why? You will lift them. A lift is when several extra layers of skin get pulled off of the area being waxed. This could be for a number of different reasons, but if your client indicates that they are using any of the above mentioned medications or products, do not wax them and continue with theading. Please note, the above list is not exhaustive, so if your client mentions they're using a medication or cream you are unsure of, do some research before you proceed with your service.
  2. CONTRAINDICATIONS: WAXING You should not wax a client if: They

have an current, fresh suntan or sunburn Why? Their skin is compromised, you will lift them. If your client isn't sunburnt but has a fresh tan, that skin is compromised and can be unpredictable even if waxing generally works fine for their skin the rest of the year. They may choose to switch to threading seasonally, and back to waxing in the fall. Keep in mind that every client is different, and that they may not react at all to waxing in the summer. If your client chooses to wax and lifts, apologize and make a note of it on their profile. Switch to threading at their subsequent summer sessions.
  3. CONTRAINDICATIONS: WAXING You should not wax a client if: They

have open or broken skin. Why? Their skin is compromised, you will injure their skin further. Applying wax to an open abrasion or broken skin will only damage that skin further. This also applies to an eczema flare-up, folliculitis, acne breakout, etc. Waxing is safe when that skin is visibly unremarkable, provided they're not also on any skin-thinning medications. Being able to thread will open up more opportunities to serve more clients.
  4. CONTRAINDICATIONS: THREADING You should not thread a client if: Why?

Their skin is compromised, you will injure their skin further. Yes, this slide is almost identical to the previous one, but this is essentially the main contraindication for threading. If the skin is compromised, it is your responsibility to allow your client's skin to heal before providing a brow service for her. Your goal should be to deliver beautiful brows while maintaining and protecting the integrity of the skin. They have open or broken skin.
