that welcomed and engaged contemporary visitors. With historical markers popping up across the state I began this adventure sure to find a vibrant history, and in some places like Annapolis, I did. In other locations, specifically areas within Southern Anne Arundel County the history was beginning to fade. I saw museums and historic sites in need of help, reducing hours of operation due to low visitor counts. Committed volunteers were aging out with few to no replacements in sight. I wanted to be a part of the resurgence of interest before we lose the unique stories. Special Thanks to South County Arts Lab for helping me make connections and get this project started.

furnished and decorated to resemble a 18th century inn and residence. Historic Buildings Abridged London Town History Carpenter’s Workshop This reconstruction’s design is based on an actual structure built around 1753, used by William Brown. The Tenement The left building is a reconstruction of what common people would have lived in during colonial times. Based on surviving records, London Town was not legitimized until 1683 with the “Act of Advancement and Trade”, however, the area was surveyed and patented in the 1650s. With its prime location on the South River, London Town was an active sea port for both international and regional trade. Including good and enslaved people. It was estimated to have had 3 - 5 public houses before it was severely effected by Tobacco export legislation in 1747. By 1768 the area was significantly reduced and the William Brown House along with 10 acres surrounding was sold to become an Alms house for the poor and destitute. The Alms house eventually closed in 1965 numerous preservationists and gardeners convinced the government to save the property as a historic site. The London Town Foundation has done considerable work on the property to present an accurate, family friendly, and engaging location to interact with history.
