  2. COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2018 kicks off today with a total of

1,602 companies from 30 countries showcasing in some 5,015 booths their newest products and technologies related to IoT, cloud computing, smart mobility and artificial intelligence-enabled services as well as solutions. The exhibition this year features six state-of-art technology themes: Artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), Innovations & Startups,”and “Gaming &VR,” as part of COMPUTEX’s mission to lead technological development and realize the vision of building a global technology ecosystem. “This year, we have added two brand new elements, Blockchain and 5G, to display the latest trends to encourage more creative thinking and to assist global technology partners in planning their future markets strategically,” said Walter Yeh, president and CEO of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), one of the organizers of the event. Leading players in the 5G industry like Ericsson, Intel, Sigfox and Qualcomm are to demonstrate compelling technologies and open a new page for the global telecom industry during the five-day event, which has continued to grow and expand in scale in line with the ICT industry. As the development of blockchain applications have become an inevitable trend in global tech industry, COMPUTEX 2018 has decided to incorporate for the first time blockchain into its main themes, in the hope that collaboration with leading players home and abroad such as IBM, Bitmark and Health2Sync can expand opportunities for blockchain technologies. IBM, which launched a new blockchain banking solution last year, is to cite its own blockchain experience and share application cases in financial, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, insurance and management during the COMPUTEX Forum’s “Future Trends” session this year. On the IoT theme, it includes a special exhibit of SmarTEX which demonstrates products in seven categories, security, smart healthcare, Internet of Vehicles, smart wearable and e-sports technologies, AI and big data, smart tech solutions, and smart home and entertainment, with key exhibitors including Microsof, Intel, EDIMAX, ECS, and Syscom Group. The Innovations & Startups theme includes the InnoVEX exhibit which is to be held from June 6 to 8, with 388 startups from 21 countries taking part in the event, up 10% from 2017. Among these exhibitors, up to 40% are international teams, and one-third AI related. The section also includes nine national pavilions: EU, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Poland, Malaysia, Mexico and Korea, triple than that of 2017. This year, two more sessions (Workshop and Startup Tour) have been added to InnoVex to bring more momentum from local and global startups in addition to the existing elements of “Display, Demo, Pitch and Forum.” As Asia’s leading startup platform, InnoVEX — into its third edition this year — has attracted local and worldwide high-potential startups, organizations and teams to participate in the annual event. During the three-day show to be held at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 3, participants have the opportunity to exchange views with startups from all over the world through the forums provided by InnoVEX. InnoVEX Pi Stage offers a platform for corporate and exhibitors to showcase and exchange ideas, at the same time opening up more opportunities for investing and incubating startups. World-renowned accelerators and startups, including Audi, Amazon Launchap, JAFCO, Samsung Next, TRIPLE and imec.epand, will talk about their global plans and cross- industry collaboration strategies on Pi Stage at 11 am on June 6th. They will also share how to help early –stage startups become commercialized, and ways to create a win-win situation for the startup community. Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund, which is devoted to investing entrepreneurs and young people in Hong Kong and Taiwan, takes part in the event for the first time to directly exchange views with global startups. Meanwhile, the gaming industry is shifting its focus from enhancing device specs and designs to building a CX-centric Gaming 3.0 ecosystem, where daily life meets cross-industry applications, such as eSports bars, hotels, and mobile phones, to accommodate a more diversified set of interests. Seventy local and foreign exhibitors of hardware components like motherboards, PC cases, and cooling systems are taking part in the five-day event. During the two-day COMPUTEX Forum, which begins today at the Taipei International Convention Center, a total of 15 global tech giants and pioneers are to share insights on AI ecosystem, technology prospects, and IoT developments centering on the “Ubiquitous Intelligence” theme, enabling attendees to envision the next stages of tech innovation. Speakers include top executives from AI and IoT leaders such as NVIDIA and Intel, leading research and advisory company Gartner, 5G innovators Qualcomm and Ericsson, Blockchain application leading developer IBM, as well as ARM, NXP, Amazon, SUPERMICRO, and National Taiwan University (NTU) AI Lab. As innovative thinking is critical for enterprises to break free from constraints and expedite transformation, COMPUTEX d&i awards added three specialty awards in the categories of “IoT”, “Startups” and “Applications & Solutions”— to promote cross- segment integration and innovation. Among a total of 212 applications from 10 countries, 5 key criteria, including “Innovation and Elaboration”, “Functionality”, “Aesthetics”, “Responsibility” and “Positioning” were used to select 60 ground-breaking innovations. All of the awarded products are on display during COMPUTEX 2018 on the 4F Light Gallery of Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1. 3. AI promises to be the most disruptive technology of the

next 10 years due to advances in computational power alongside the volume, velocity and variety of data, as well as advances in deep neural networks (DNNs). AI comes in two forms — quantitative techniques that can predict behavior from data and neural network technology that can classify complex objects, such as images, video, speech and sound. Organizations using AI technologies can harness data to both extract new insights and automate processes that are uneconomical endeavors for human labor to perform. Any industry with very large amounts of data — so much that humans cannot possibly analyze or understand it on their own — can use AI. Some industries, such as health care, are ripe for such disruption. AI applications will bring new levels of customer service, decision quality, scale and operational efficiency to processes formerly operated by human labor. The growth in AI businesses’ value shows the typical S-shaped curve pattern associated with an emerging technology (Figure 1). In 2017, the growth rate was estimated to be 70%, but this growth will quickly drop to 39% in 2020. After 2020, the curve will flatten, resulting in a low growth rate of only 7% in 2025. The value that employing AI will bring to businesses comes from the following areas: • Efficiency gains • Creation of insights that personalize the customer experience • New automated processes that reduce friction and improve business efficiency AI systems will enhance customer engagement and commerce, expand revenue-generating opportunities, and enable new business models driven by data insights. Key points in the evolution of AI are as follows: • By 2020, AI technologies will be entirely pervasive in almost every new software product and service. • By 2020, AI will become a positive net job motivator, creating 2.3 million jobs, while only eliminating 1.8 million jobs. • By 2021, AI augmentation will generate US$2.9 trillion in business value and recover 6.2 billion hours of worker productivity. • By 2022, more than 90% of AI technologies in use in enterprises will be embedded in broader products, rather than being assembled or created from scratch by the enterprise itself or its agents. Business Value According to Geography The Greater China region leads in business value throughout the forecast period, although only by a whisker until 2019. North America accounts for a third of business value in 2018, dropping to a fifth by 2025 and finishing the forecast period at 18.2% of the total (Figure 2). Emerging Asia-Pacific is the fastest- growing region, going from 0.2% in 2017 to fourth position at 12.3% by 2030. Both Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa grow from less than 0.5% to 5% in the same time frame. Decision support/ augmentation and decision automation accelerate more quickly in market mature regions where there is a significant level of automation presence — this growth takes longer to affect emerging regions. Business Value According to Industry Adoption and value from AI will be based on bringing differentiated business values to operations within a vertical parameter. Therefore, there are only modest fluctuations in the proportion of business value from AI generated by each individual industry. The heavy industry sector leads from 2017 throughout the forecast period (Figure 3). The transportation and construction organizations are focused on becoming more data driven in order to support their goals of growth, digital transformation and profitability improvements. The advance of the IoT will increase the amount of data available, demanding new AI systems that identify otherwise undetected patterns that presage unexpected costs. These systems will also enable predictive maintenance techniques, which Gartner believes will save asset operators about US$1 trillion a year. Agents will be the main variety of AI in the early years, but by 2019 decision support/augmentation will be the leading AI type for heavy industry. Minimal uplift came from decision automation in 2017, but by 2022 decision automation (particularly in the form of predictive maintenance) will have overtaken products in terms of generating business value. The communications, media and services’ business value from AI will dip by 2023 but will peak by the end of the forecast period. Agents will be the dominant type of AI in the early years, but by 2025 the proportion of AI types will stabilize, with decision support/ augmentation reaching 45% and a significant proportion coming from decision automation (18%). AI systems will enhance content by performing indexing and classification that are otherwise unavailable, encouraging consumers to find and consume more content. Natural resources and materials have long used machine learning for exploring data regarding extraction of resources and finding new areas and new potential resources to extract. DNNs can detect new opportunities indicated by datasets that are not detectable employing conventional processing techniques. Mining and oil extraction are examples of resources that will benefit from the superior technology of DNNs to detect undiscovered opportunities hidden in the large, diverse areas in this industry. Decision support/ augmentation will be the top AI type from 2021 onward. For the consumer products industry, the proportion of the entire AI business value will peak around 2023 and 2024. Adoption of products such as smart home devices (e.g., Amazon Echo and Google Home), smart personal care devices (e.g., toothbrushes) and smart toys will become mainstream, with new categories emerging (e.g., smart toiletries). In terms of spatial experience, digital business models are emerging that will blur the lines between the digital and physical worlds. Companies are leveraging IoT to connect people, businesses and objects to drive revenue and efficiency. AI applications create the leverage necessary to enhance interactions with potential customers. 7. InnoVEX, an exhibit area created specifically to showcase the latest

groundbreaking technology at COMPUTEX TAIPEI, takes the stage again this year to provide the most critical elements for a successful tech startup — networking opportunities with global buyers, investors and manufacturers, as well as catching up with the latest industry trends. Because of its growing influence, InnoVEX at Computex has attracted local and global high-potential startups, organizations and teams to join the annual event, making it the largest startup platform in Asia this year. The exhibit opens from June 6 to June 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 3, boasting 388 tech startups from 21 countries, with at least a third focusing on artificial intelligence solutions — one of COMPUTEX’s major themes this year. According to the 2018 Global Startup Ecosystem Report, global venture capital contributed US$140 billion in 2017 — a new high in the past 20 years. Folowing such high growth, COMPUTEX has decided to make innovation and startups InnoVEX’s major theme this year, seeking to create an innovative and smart ecosystem by merging resources and know-how from all corners of the world. “Taiwan’s industry makeup is moving from the past procurement- focused industries to ‘solution provider,’ with a strong emphasis in developing applications,” said Walter Yeh, president and CEO of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, one of the main organizers of COMPUTEX. Major Attraction at InnoVEX For the first time in the event’s history, Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund, which is devoted to investing in entrepreneurs and young people from Hong Kong and Taiwan, leads a group of promising startups to take part in InnoVEX, giving them a much-needed opportunity to use the world-class platform to directly exchange views with their global peers, providing a vital growth oppportunity. As investment capital is critical for a tech startup to develop and grow, Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund, a not-for-profit initiative launched by Alibaba Group, decided to establish a HK$1 billion fund and NT$10 billion fund to support rising businesses and communities in Hong Kong and Taiwan, respectively. Technologies developed by these startups mostly focus on AI applications and solutions, ranging from health care, property development, augmented and virtual reality, e-sports and gaming to video AI and e-commerce platforms. Viscovery Pte. LTD, a world leading video AI company, is among the startups that have used the fund to expand and become a globaly recognized company. Established in 2013, Viscovery has based its products in deep learning and computer vision technology that can be applied to enterprise-level digital image and video recognition over a wide range of categories. With the advent of self-driving vehicles becoming a reality rather than a dream for the future, Fintech company Adenovo has taken a different track by concentrating on risk management and car financing with AI technology. Amwise focuses on advanced precision medicine in oncology, striving to shape a better world for cancer patients. The company provides healthcare professionals and patients with quantitative data to help determine appropriate approaches to treatment. Extending traditional property rights to digital property, Bitmark assigns property titles to digital data and then records the ownership and history of these titles in a blockchain. Another Alibaba-funded company, Health2Sync, scales diabetes care by providing a digital engagement platform that is comprised of a mobile app for diabetics, cloud-based analytics and a cloud platform for healthcare providers. In-Demand Peripheral Events An exhibiting area is not complete without peripheral events to get the atmosphere going. The Taipei Computer Association has stated that the startup ecosystem faces a demand from the VC community for prospective startups to invest in, and the startups themselves need investment and coverage. Two stages — the Pi Stage and Center Stage — will be offering a series of events ranging from keynote speeches and panel discussions to pitch contests and matchmaking opportunities in order to address the needs of the startup and VC community. At the Pi Stage, new tech startups will have the opportunity to take to the stage in events such as the “Global Startup Demo,” “InnoVEX Pitch Contests” and “AI+ Solution Matchmaking.” Experts such as Chinese Business Incubation Association Chairman Ching Yao Huang, Asia Silicon Valley Development Agency CTO Tsung-Ching Wu, Business Foundations Inc CEO Philip Kemp from Australia, and Thailand’s Sansanee Huabsomboon, director of the Technology Business Incubation Center, NSTDA, are slated to offer their startup ecosystem insights on how best to leverage local incubators and accelerators in order to quicky grow a business. Innovating for the future at COMPUTEX TAIPEI’s featured area: InnoVEX More than a dozen startups aided by the Chinese-giant Alibaba join their peers from other countries for the first time at this year’s show. Members of the Fintech company Amwise Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund has invested in 11 domestic start-up companies to date, including those in the e-commerce and e-sport gaming industries. Adenovo CFO Bonnie Tsai, left, CEO Ocean Liu, center, and CTO Gen Tseng, right. Members of the domestic travel activities platform KKday Taiwan Andrew Lee, Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund Executive Director Health2Sync (H2), an Alibaba- funded company, focuses on providing a solution for healthcare providers with their mobile App. 14 15 InnoVEX InnoVEX
  8. With thousands of registered startsups, the Netherlands is leading a

delegation comprising 16 that are top of the crop. The Netherlands Trade and Investment Office Economic Advisor Diederik van der Toorn said their government has named several strategic innovation industry shows in 2018 to keep an eye on, and that includes COMPUTEX TAIPEI’s InnoVEX -- the only exhibit cited in the Asian region -- mentioned in the same breath as the U.S.’ CES and Hannover Messe in Germany. The emphasis on InnoVEX largely comes from how the Netherlands regards the show and Taiwan as an indisputable and deeply connected part of the world’s industrial supply chain. Toorn says the Netherland’s government and companies view Taiwan as a crucial step to opening up their markets to the Asian region and the best springboard to the China market. Teaming with the “Smartest City” The Netherlands is acclaimed for its “Startup Delta,” an initiative created in 2014 by the country’s industry, government and academic members, as well as accelerators and incubators. There’s no doubt about the country’s leading standing in the startup scene; the Netherlands boasts over 3,500 startups, 45 incubators and accelerators, and 69 V.C. investors. The Startup Delta was ranked No. 19 in 2017 by Startup Genome, an organization that promotes and analyzes the success rate of startups by seeking to improve their performance in the startup ecosystems. Many Dutch startups have grown to become reputable, large companies. These shining examples include the world’s largest booking website “Booking.com,” navigational services heavyweight “TomTom,” and file transfer website “WeTransfer.” Eindhoven, known as the “Smartest City” in the world, is one of the most acclaimed cities in the Startup Delta initiative, boasting 1,300 patents. With a population that makes up only 4 percent of the Netherlands, the city accounts for a whopping 44 percent of the country’s patents. Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je visited Eindhoven during his delegation trip in January and met with the city’s mayor, John Jorritsma. The Industrial Development Bureau has also signed a memorandum with Eindhoven, in order to promote bilateral innovative collaboration. The initiative’s head host, Nils Beers, will be a guest at COMPUTEX this year, as well as Jorritsma, who will be visiting the expo and leading the Dutch delegation. This marks the first time he will visit COMPUTEX as Eindhoven’s mayor. Networking opportunities will be abundant during the daily networking Happy Hour around 17:00 at the “Holland Lounge.” The time has been set aside with planned events for interested investors to inquire and learn more about the country’s startup culture. Be on the lookout for the “Dutch Startup Ecosystem seminar” at 9:30 a.m., and “Pitching session of Dutch Startups” at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 7; during the latter, 16 excellent Dutch startups will pitch their innovative solutions and products in 5-minute presentations. Sixteen Innovative Startups Under the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, 16 Dutch startups will be showcased at InnoVEX, including the translating device Travis that amazed the audience at the U.S.’ CES show last year. Key startups to look out for at the Holland Lounge include Roader, a wearable time machine camera that records the previous 10 seconds and enables the wearer to choose which moments to keep, savor and share, even after the event. This device eliminates the frustration of not getting your camera out in time. LifeSense Group’s healthcare smart application Carin helps women combat urine loss after childbirth, menopause and aging by coaching women to train their pelvic muscles. The Carin set includes an exercise app and smart protective underwear. VR is arguably the hottest technology in recent years and the Dutch are no strangers to rolling out their own innovative spin on it. For example, VRee B.V. platform offers players a synchronized full body experience in virtual reality without latency. Gamers can play in VR eSports in single games or tournaments, watch live-streams or interact as a spectator in the virtual world. The platform also supports playing in a joint virtual environment from different geographical locations. We are all looking for ways to make our cities safer. Sorama provides high-resolution sound cameras, noise and vibration control services. They can be used to prevent crime in urban areas by detecting loud sound disturbances, vehicle crashes and breaking glass. Additionally, with growing awareness of the importance of renewable energy in combating climate change and reducing carbon footprints, Lightyear provides a solar-powered electric car that can go uncharged for months. and rich export experience -- eagerly seeking online export opportunities to develop their businesses, Amazon Global Selling decided to set up its Taiwan team and began operation in May 2017. Through Amazon Global Selling, Taiwan sellers have direct access to more than 300 million active customer accounts worldwide and over one million Amazon business buyers, providing the e-commerce giant with a compelling argument when approaching local businesses. In addition, Amazon Global Selling operates 13 online marketplaces worldwide and supports sellers with its world-leading logistic system. It also helps sellers complete export logistic solutions and expand their overseas business in a more convenient and efficient way through 149 fulfilments centers located across the world that can deliver products to customers in 185 countries and regions. “We are seeing more Taiwan sellers, including manufacturers, brand owners, traders, and start- ups selling their products globally on our international marketplaces, opening themselves up to millions of additional potential customers and business buyers through the beauty of the internet,” said Cindy Tai, head of Amazon Global Selling Asia, “Our goal is to continue to provide the support to empower Taiwan brands and small and medium businesses (SMBs) on Amazon to scale up their businesses and help them develop their brands globally,” she said. Signing an MOU with TAITRA Since the launch of the Taiwan team, Amazon Global selling has built a one-stop solution for Amazon sellers by partnering with local companies to help sellers with logistic solution for inbound shipment to Amazon Fulfillment Centers in the United States and Japan. It has also provided payment solutions to facilitate seller’s operation flow and hosted a series of seminars with industrial associations to explore the manufacturing strength of Taiwan’s industry in stepping onto Amazon marketplaces. Last week, Amazon Global Selling also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) for a joint effort to identify and select enterprises of high quality to help them launch export business in Amazon global marketplaces. Under the MOU, Amazon will provide enhanced services to the selected companies, including guidance regarding the on-boarding process, account management services, selling through Fulfillment by Amazon, and enhanced merchandising and promotion services. As part of the MOU deliverables, the TA project (TAITRA/Amazon project) aims to support small and medium enterprises in Taiwan in the information and communications technology industry to expand their businesses on Amazon. For the first time, Amazon will also take part in the 2018 COMPUTEX in Taipei with Amazon Pavilion presence (TICC, 3F, North Lounge) to promote Amazon branding in Taiwan. In the new trading era represented by cross-border online export, the Global Selling Taiwan team is helping different local sellers transform and explore global business opportunities, including manufacturers, brand owners and start-ups. For manufacturers, Amazon provides supports to help them embrace new trading models to transform online practices, connect directly with global customers and build their own brands. For brand owners and start-ups, they gain access to customer insights in order to build their own brand. In addition to globally active customers, B2B e-commerce business represents another driving force for manufacturing companies to increase sales. Since its launch in the United States in April 2015, Amazon Business has now launched on Amazon US, Germany, United Kingdom, Japan and France and serves more than 1 million business customers around the world. Global growth of 50% in 2017 Amazon has created a suite of support tools to help smaller businesses export their products abroad, including providing global delivery and distribution and managing customer service in local languages. Amazon also translates hundreds of millions of product listings each year on behalf of smaller businesses, enabling them to sell internationally with minimal effort. In a recent letter to Shareholder, Amazon said the Global Selling program grew by over 50% in 2017 and cross-border ecommerce by SMBs now represents more than 25% of total third- party sales. This is evident at the “Sourcing Taiwan for Government Procurement ICT Solutions & Products” session, which the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) delegation will attend. As for many other visitors, this is their first time visiting Taiwan. The procurement session is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 6 at Room 504, 5th Floor, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1, and we sat down with several members of the delegation to understand more about what they hope to see at COMPUTEX and the upcoming procurement session. Coming all the way from Egypt is Global Brands Group (GBG) Managing Director Fouad Sehehab El-Din. As an IT infrastructure systems integrator, he works with major IT suppliers such as HP, Dell, Microsoft and Lenovo. Sehehab El-Din’s mission at COMPUTEX TAIPEI is to seek out cloud-based solutions to achieve his company’s goals in specific industries -- such as manufacturing, real estate, smart cities, smart homes and smart campuses -- and resources. He hopes that his trip here will allow him to understand more about the key players as well. “My prime objective here is to find cloud-based solution partners, either total solutions -- in the sense of having everything, software, gateways, sensors -- or components manufacturers,” he said. One of the things he asks companies that meet with him is how easily they can offer pilot projects and proof of concepts with affordable costs, because this is their main selling point. ActivePlatform SVP WW Sales Rony Moyal offers their ActivePlatform, an automated cloud brokerage platform for telecom service providers and technology distributors. This platform enables customer lifecycle management from customer acquisition to customer boarding through single-point-of-bill and single-point-of-control panels, enabling effective management of services. “We’re like a marketplace that brings together ISVs and customers under one fabric,” Moyal said, elaborating that service providers today are migrating from selling one product to one customer to the cloud- and subscription-based economy. In doing so, providers require a dedicated platform. “That is where we come in,” he said. Moyal said that, during their trip to Taiwan, they are trying to “meet potential customers, meet with independent software vendors to augment our ecosystem with more solutions and get the vibe of the industry in APEC and globally.” This is Mobiblanc Co-CEO Mohamed Benboubker’s first time at COMPUTEX. and his main objective is to understand the Asian dynamic and local initiatives while scouring for collaborative opportunities. Friends who had previously attended the show recommended that he visit, citing Taiwan’s smart approach to business. Mobiblanc is leading the market in digital transformation through mobile software in Morocco, with a special focus on apps for telecommunications, finance, the public sector and smart cities. They are ambitious and aim to become a regional player; they not only have offices in Morocco but also in Tunisia and Dubai. Mobiblanc is offering a software solution for sales and merchandising activities using an SaaS/Recurrent model, and they are looking to fulfill their 360-degrees sales kit with tools such as SIM data cards, mobile devices, mobile printers, hosting, backup and security, support and data monitoring. IDRAK Technology Transfer Vice President Emil Ismayilov from Azerbaijan says they provide passport border control systems -- security control for airline passengers -- such as identification card and passport issuing systems. He is at COMPUTEX to find partnerships in the production of hardware and to maintain business contacts. They have on-going projects that are not yet public, so Ismayilov hopes that his time at the expo will help him understand more about smart technologies and IoT and develop potential contacts, because many of the yet-to-be-announced projects are based in these areas.
