  9. the CheckiO platform is a string of islands with specific

    code challenges

  10. user profiles are designed to show off activity, amount of

    badges and level

  11. based on level, certain actions on the site unlock

  12. publish your solution and receive code-reviews from fellow users

  13. badges reward users for more than just coding abilities

  14. working with developer-darling companies allows us to raffle out ‘stuff’

  15. social sharing built into a lot of actions on the

    site

  16. ... but we’re dealing with a different demographic here

  17. programmer == gamer

  18. (mainly) boys will be boys

  19. collaboration vs competition
