6. #dfua Women Minority Problem • Women made up 26% of the computing workforce in 2014 • 57% of bachelor's degrees earned by women, 12% of computer science degrees • Google's workforce is only 30% female • 56% of women in technology leave their employers midcareer • 20% of software developers are women • 7% of venture capital funding goes to women-owned businesses • In 1985, women earned 37% of computer-science degrees versus about 25% today.

12. #dfua Why does it matter? • 1.4 million computer specialists job openings are expected in US by 2020. • Research shows that diversity leads to better decisions, creativity, performance, innovation. • Allows organizations to better cater to a variety of clients. • A lot of benefits for women (high salaries, possibility of remote job, scholarships, grants). • Diverse minds drive innovation, and that access to resources will help us level the playing field for more great minds to join the technology industry.
