also, lots of provocative ideas.

here are my five big takeaways:
1.
there is no one true input.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
but there are comfort zones.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
consider this:
75% of phone interactions are single-thumb
controls for iOS apps are at screen bottom
controls for Android apps are at screen top
controls for web are at page bottom
controls for tablets favor sides and corners
voice and gesture are here, brain is on the way
in other words:
web experiences should be touch-friendly
digital experiences should be input-agnostic
2.
there is no one true output.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
so things are getting ugly.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
let’s bring some order to chaos.
None
consider this:
90% of media consumption occurs on a screen
90% of users move between devices to accomplish a task
55% of Americans use their mobile devices to go online
31% of these Americans only or mostly use the internet
on their mobile devices
in other words:
web media should be mobile-friendly
digital media should be context-agnostic
3.
plan for everything.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
you’ll either reach everyone...
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
...or reach your breaking point.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
but don’t assume it will break...
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
...and if it does, take it in stride.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
consider this:
technology is transformative by nature
we can’t predict the changes that are on the horizon
we can be sure that new platforms are on the
way
sure, we can continue to fork content across platforms
but it’s expensive (and stupid) to do things that way
in other words:
web content should be syndication-friendly
digital content should be platform-agnostic
4.
you can handle anything.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
so learn about everything.
an event apart: seattle my takeaways
consider this:
our clients don’t always understand digital
it’s our job to educate them about what we do
when it comes to educating, sometimes less is more
we love what we do, and we get paid well
to do it
if we show our clients why we love it, they
will too
in other words:
web professionals should be client-friendly
digital professionals should be bias-agnostic
5.
look forward to looking back.
None
past. future. it’s all in your hands.
None
consider this:
we have to be fast
we have to be smart
we have to be strong
we have to be flexible
we have to be aware
in other words:
be friendly
be agnostic
we’re building systems, not just deliverables
what we build is the foundation for the future
build cool stuff for everyone, and have fun doing it
None
thanks.
