  3. What is Women’s Day? International Women’s Day is celebrated every

year on 8th March. The day belongs to every woman around the world and celebrates the economic, political, social, and cultural achievements of women. It is the day that marks CTA (Call-To-Action) to accelerate the gender parity and celebrate the essence of being a woman. The essence of being a woman is more than just the beauty of her face and body. She is right there to accomplish her goals and never settles for anything less as she is a woman. So, ladies embrace the journey of reaching the best version of yourself!!!!
  4. “Well behaved women rarely make history.” “Always be a first-rate

version of yourself instead of a second rate version of somebody else.” “A woman with a voice is by definition a strong woman.” “Do not live someone else’s life, and someone else’s idea of what woman hood is. The women were protesting against the working conditions in the factory. After a year in 1910, a German advocate of women’s rights and the member of Social Democratic Party, Clara Zetkin, also proposed that a day should be set aside to celebrate the essence of womanhood. The proposal was accepted and put into practice. Since then, it has added a new global dimension for the women in both developing and developed countries alike. In the same year at the Socialist International meeting in Copenhagen, it was established a Women’s Day should be practiced for honoring the movement of women’s rights.
  7. In 1911, due to the Copenhagen initiative, International Women’s Day

was marked in Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. 1913-1914 was a period when Women’s Day became a mechanism for protesting the first-world war. Russian women observed the first International Women’s Day on the last Sunday in February. 1975 During International Women’s Year, the United Nations started celebrating the International Women’s Day on 8th March. 2014 By this year, it was celebrated in more than 100 countries, and was declared as an official holiday in more than 25 countries. History of Women’s Day
  8. How is it celebrated now in different countries? Every country

has its unique way of celebrating Women’s Day. In Italy the day is celebrated by giving a mimosa blossom to the women. The day is called “La Festa della Donna.” One can see almost every street corner in Italy selling bouquets of mimosa blooms. The idea here is that people have to honor the women by giving them these flowers. It marks the symbol of sensibility and female power. In US, people buy favorite flowers for the ladies in their life and also offer one for the lady they come in contact on 8th March They give attractive cards to them, and convey the respect for whatever they have done in their life.
  9. Taxing the Patriarchy in US Almost 47% of the US

workers are women. Most of the women in US end up paying more tax when they get married than they would have while remaining single. Since 1948, US has a joint policy of taxing the married couple where the lower earner is at a disadvantageous position, which most of the time is the wife. The Trump tax cuts have eliminated most of the penalties, but there are still many to be eliminated.
  10. UN and Gender Equality In 2010, the United Nations General

Assembly created the UN women, which was a United Nations Entity for the Gender Equality and the Empowerment of the women. It was a historic step that accelerated the goals of the organization in empowering women.

  12. Powerful Speech By Meghan Markle at UN In 2015, now

the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, gave a powerful speech at United Nations on International Women’s Day. The speech was about her school days, when she was 11 years old. She was watching television when the P&G advertisement popped up stating “Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.” This was a turning point, as boys started teasing, this is where women belong to, in the kitchen. Meghan was hurt, and later on, she wrote letters to the First Lady, Hillary Clinton, and to even the manufacturer of the soap. The impact was so powerful that she received letters of encouragement, and the advertisement tagline was changed to “People all over America” from “Women all over America.”
  13. 2019 Theme for the Women’s Day The 2019 theme for

the Women’s Day was think equal, build smart, innovate for change, which focuses on the innovative ways through which the world can advance in the empowerment of women and gender equality especially in the area of sustainable infrastructure, access to the public services, and the social protection system.
  14. Conclusion Women’s Day reminds of gender equality as a human

being. As per nature’s law, both male and female gender have been created by God to co-exist, and not to win any race or show supremacy over the other. So, by giving importance to women, one can show that they value women in their life and respect the gender as a whole across the world. More than 100 countries have now taken action for tracking the budget allocations for gender equality. Sustainable development goals need transformative shifts, new solutions, and integrated approaches. These approaches can disrupt the usual business aiming to remove the structural barriers by ensuring no girl is left behind.
