  2. What is CLEP? • Website: https://clep.collegeboard.org/ • CLEP = College-Level

Examination Program • CLEP is developed by the College Board. The College Board also oversees Advanced Placement and SAT exams. • It is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program. • It is available at more than 2,900 colleges and universities. • College Board offers 33 CLEP exams.

  4. Why should you prefer CLEP over AP exams? • I

prefer CLEP because the student can sign up for the exam and get the results back on the exam day. • We know the AP calendar. Students are enrolled in an AP class and then take the exam in May. Students and teachers get the results in July! • AP offers 36 exams. However, most of the exams are two to three hours long (with limited breaks). CLEP exams usually consist of 100 multiple choice questions. Test takers should complete the exam in under 90 minutes. The College Algebra exam consists of 60 questions.
  5. Do you know what toxic testing is? • The United

States does have a high-stakes testing culture. • Many high school students in Kentucky take the ACT, the Explore or Compass, the PLAN, the KOSSA, and QualityCore exams. • In addition, many students take the Advanced Placement (AP) exams. • Some schools offer the opportunity to take the ASVAB, WorkKeys, SAT, and PSAT exams. • I acknowledge toxic testing, and we should recognize the impact on school climate. • However, a CLEP exam is optional and it allows the student to pick the date and place.
  6. CLEP helps students finish degree programs. • Many of you

have heard the commercials on the radio. The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) is encouraging college students to take 15 hours per semester. • The campaign is called “15 to Finish.” • Our Commonwealth has done an outstanding job promoting “15 to Finish” and the new compulsory attendance age of 18. • CLEP exams help students receive credits and obtain degrees quicker and easier. • According to the College Board, 27% of CLEP test takers are college seniors.
