3. You can start IT without studying IT Some people start working in IT without studying IT at university. They learn IT after joining a company. This is not unusual in Japan. Background: Japan’s new-graduate and company-training system 3
4. But my story was different I already loved computers. I studied computer science at university. I continued to a master’s degree. Computers were already an important part of my life. 4
5. My first career was software development I started my career as a software developer. C / C++ Windows Printer software I worked as a developer for many years. 5
6. Then I met Open Source After many years as a developer, I met the Open Source community. Linux LibreOffice Many people and communities It changed my world. 6
7. Open Source was not only software At first, I was interested in software. But I also met many people. I learned from them. I worked with them. I made friends around the world. 7
8. My career also changed Software Development → Test Automation → Cybersecurity / DevSecOps I did not plan this career. 8
9. When I was your age... DevSecOps did not exist. I could not plan to become a DevSecOps engineer. The job did not exist yet. 9
10. You cannot plan everything Technology changes. Jobs change. People change. Your future job may not exist today. You do not need to decide your whole career now. 10
11. You don’t have to be like me You don’t have to love computers before you start working in IT. You don’t have to program every night. You can learn after you start working. You can still become a good engineer. 11
12. But stay curious Try new things. Learn a new technology. Join a community. Meet new people. Something you meet tomorrow may change your career. 12
13. More than 30 years later... I loved computers when I was a student. My job has changed many times. Technology has changed a lot. But I still enjoy computers. I hope you will enjoy your journey, too. 13
