Odin Energy - Augmented Wind-Based Decentralized Energy Resource

Odin Energy developed Odin Tower, an wind-based innovative decentralized energy resource system. Odin Tower takes advantage of the Bernoulli effect to augment wind energy and to generate larger electricity from the same wind.

Odin Tower has a stacked structure to utilize the fact that wind becomes stronger at higher altitude, and uses much smaller land than traditional wind or solar systems.

Other strengths include lower noise and vibration, and structural stability.

  5. Solar Problem – panel material issues • Solar panels use

lead, cadmium, and other noxious chemicals • Glass from PV is hard to recycle due to these materials • Burying solar panel wastes can make toxic materials to permeate the soil 10
  6. Wind Problem – ineffective use of wind • Current wind

power does not fully utilize energy of turbulent winds • Actual wind can be turbulent, not laminar flows that blow in multiple directions • Turbulent winds cause fatigue of the wind system, leading to failures • Current wind systems cannot generate power with a weak wind Laminar vs. Turbulent flows 11
  7. Wind Problem – noise, vibration “The Germans fighting wind farms

close to their homes” (DW.com, 2019-11-26) •"when strong winds push the rotors at full speed to generate electricity, they make a continuous whooshing sound like faraway planes flying by." •"Economy Minister Peter Altmaier drafted a law this month that would require new turbines to be built at least 1,000 meters from a residential area, defined as being made up of at least five houses." •“… could reduce the already limited space that can be used for wind farms by 20% to 50%” 12 https://youtu.be/Mk5zMxYVca0
  8. Wind Problem – frequent failures • Mechanical failures at least

once in 1 to 2 years • Vibration due to the high pole • Some systems fail more than 10 times a year • At least a few days to repair the system • It takes longer if components come from overseas 13
  9. Wind Problem – bird strikes U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service

    • “… bird deaths from turbine collisions are between 140,000 and 500,000 birds per year.” • “As wind energy capacity increases … mean bird deaths resulting in collisions with turbines could reach 1.4 million birds/year.” Source: https://www.fws.gov/birds/bird-enthusiasts/threats-to- birds/collisions/wind-turbines.php 14
  10. Odin innovation – better utilization of winds Bernoulli principle-based structure

    • Wind becomes faster entering the tower • Can generate with slower winds • Larger power created at the same-speed wind • Turbulent flows become laminar flows on entering 16
  11. Odin innovation – stacked tower Tower built by floor •

Install capacity to suit purpose • 10KW to 1MW per tower • Diameter from 10m to 36m • Repair failed floor, operating the others • Solar panels can be put on top and sides • Bird strike is rare thanks to visible tower • Lower floors can be used for various purposes 17
  12. Odin innovation – robust structure Turbine fastened up and down

    • Low vibration and noise • Can generate with strong wind • Low failure rate 18
  13. Odin Tower can generate 4x electricity as regular small wind

  14. Odin business model – product sales Product • Sell Odin

system modules • Basic Odin business model • Outsource production Installation • Build structure and install Odin system • Engineering companies • Partner with Odin • Odin may do this for early projects Operation • Operate electricity generation • Real customer of Odin • Place an order of installing Odin system 20
