  2. DATA MANAGEMENT PLANS • WHAT IS A DATA MANAGEMENT PLAN?

    A data management plan (DMP) is a document that describes how research data will be organized, stored, and shared, during the research and after it is finished • WHO REQUIRES A DATA MANAGEMENT PLAN? – Funders (e.g., NSF, NEH, NIH) and journals (e.g., PLoS, Nature) – Institutional Review Boards • WHY DO WE NEED TO MANAGE DATA? – Preserve data for transparency and replication – Facilitate new discoveries via re-use – Increase visibility of the work
  3. NCSU’S DMP SUPPORT • Office of Information Technology – Storage

    and backup, web hosting, HPC, software licensing, security • Research Administration – Research integrity, compliance, proposal development, IRB, funding • Libraries – Consultation and guidance for metadata, citing data, sharing data, data repositories – California Digital Library’s DMPTool (dmptool.org) – DMP review service
