  1. WordPress eCommerce Integration 2 Who Am I? Daniel J Griffiths

(Ghost1227) @ghost1227 I’ve been doing WordPress plugin development for around seven years, and general development for close to ten. I have a passion for working with (and writing) APIs, and I constantly try to push the boundaries of my favorite platform (WordPress, of course). I am a core developer for Easy Digital Downloads, and the founder for and lead developer of Redux Framework, in addition to having many plugins available through the WordPress repository and CodeCanyon. dgriffiths1227 [email protected] www.section214.com www.ghost1227.com
  2. WordPress eCommerce Integration 4 eCommerce is the purchase or sale

of products or services conducted by transferring data electronically, especially over the Internet. WHAT IS ECOMMERCE?
  3. WordPress eCommerce Integration 6 Of those who use WordPress, 69%

use it only as a CMS (Content Management System), 20% use it as a blog/CMS combo, 6% use it for blogging only, and 7% as an application platform. - Matt Mullenweg State of the Word, 2013 ISN’T WORDPRESS JUST FOR BLOGS?
  4. WordPress eCommerce Integration 10 WooCommerce - WooCommerce is a powerful,

extendable eCommerce plugin that helps you sell anything. Beautifully. Shopp - A professional, high-performance e-commerce development plugin for WordPress. Ecwid - Ecwid is a free full-featured shopping cart that can easily be added to any blog and takes less than 5 minutes to set up. WP e-Commerce - WP e-Commerce makes it easy to sell to customers. WORDPRESS ECOMMERCE SOLUTIONS
  5. WordPress eCommerce Integration 11 WOOCOMMERCE WooCommerce is one of the

largest and most popular eCommerce plugins for WordPress. PROS • It’s free! • In-depth reporting • Full control over taxes and shipping • Product and inventory management • Native coupon functionality • LOTS of available themes • Clean admin interface • First-class support CONS • Themes and extensions aren’t cheap • Difficult to customize
  6. WordPress eCommerce Integration 12 SHOPP One of the cleanest eCommerce

platforms around… if only it didn’t cost so much… PROS • Integrates with any theme • Supports downloadable and virtual products • Supports subscriptions natively • Incredibly easy to use • Inventory management • First-class support CONS • Base price of $75 for one site • Extensions aren’t cheap • Difficult to customize • Tax system is inflexible • Templating is fairly basic
  7. WordPress eCommerce Integration 13 EASY DIGITAL DOWNLOADS Yes, it’s a

niche market, but Easy Digital Downloads excels at one thing… digital downloads! PROS • It’s free! • Integrates with any theme • Supports downloadable and virtual products • Incredibly easy to use • Inventory management • Extremely customizable • Extremely flexible tax system • First-class support CONS • Minimal support for physical products • Minimal shipping functionality • Extremely flexible tax system (yes, this is a con too) • I might be a bit biased on this one…
  8. WordPress eCommerce Integration 14 Ecwid Ecwhat? Well… pronounceable or not,

it is popular! PROS • It’s free... Sorta • Five-minute setup • Theme-agnostic • Supports digital products • Extremely flexible tax system • Extremely flexible shipping system CONS • Can’t be extended • Difficult to customize • It’s not really free… 10 product max??? • No reporting • iFrames went out in the 90’s
  9. WordPress eCommerce Integration 15 WP E-COMMERCE The most downloads of

any eCommerce plugin. PROS • It’s free! • Theme-agnostic • Supports digital products • Numerous shipping options • Great order management • Native support for coupons CONS • Downright painful setup • Difficult to customize • Horrible admin interface • Poor documentation • Poor support • Identity crisis anyone?
  10. WordPress eCommerce Integration 17 ARE THOSE THE ONLY OPTIONS? THERE

ARE LOTS OF ECOMMERCE PLUGINS FOR WORDPRESS! In fact, there are enough eCommerce plugins that we couldn’t possibly discuss them all in one meeting! As such, the plugins we have discussed are five of the most popular eCommerce plugins available today. If you have questions about a specific plugin that we haven’t covered, feel free to ask! NO!
  11. So what do I use? It depends on the site.

If it isn’t focused on physical products, I’ll always say EDD. If physical products are a big part of the site, you can’t beat the features or flexibility of WooCommerce.
  12. WordPress eCommerce Integration 22 Stay in Touch! Daniel J Griffiths
