  1. Plot • The events in a story, from beginning to

    end. • It’s the foundation of a story because the setting and characters are built around it.
  2. Exposition • The beginning of the story. • Usually the

    place where setting and characters are introduced. • Conflict is usually introduced here as well.
  3. Rising Action • The events that build up the conflict.

    • This is where things start to get complicated. Excitement or tension usually develops during this phase.
  4. Climax • The turning point of the story. • Someone

    has to make a choice, and it will either end well or not.
  5. Types of Conflict Internal Conflict • Character vs. him/herself •

    All the conflict is emotional or inside the character’s head External Conflict Most common: • Character vs. character • Character vs. society • Character vs. nature Becoming more common: • Character vs. technology • Character vs. supernatural • Character vs. destiny
  6. Falling Action • Depending on the choice made during the

    climax, the events of the story start to get resolved.
  7. Resolution • The conclusion of the story. • The ending

    is either going to be happy or sad (or a cliff hanger if dealing with novels in a series).
