  1. WHAT IS LINUX? An Operating System like Windows and OS

    X ! ! Linux Foundation Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVpbFMhOAwE
  2. Finnish American software engineer, who was the principal force behind

the development of the Linux kernel. He later became the chief architect of the Linux kernel and now acts as the project's coordinator. He also created the revision control system Git as well as the diving log software Subsurface.
  3. WHAT MAKES LINUX DIFFERENT? • Freedom & Independence: Linux is

licensed under GNU General Public Licence (GPL), for which credit goes to GNU project. This license gives a right to copy the software, look at the source code, modify and redistribute it to anyone as long as it remains licensed under the GPL. ! • Security & No Viruses: Linux was build on top of a powerful authorization management system, which, by default, does not allow regular users to interact the core system functions. ! • Performance & Reliability: Most of the world’s modern supercomputers use Linux due to its profound performance and reliability.
  4. WHO WORKS WITH LINUX? Over 1,000 developers, from at least

100 different companies, contribute to every kernel release. In the past two years alone, over 3,200 developers from 200 companies have contributed to the Linux kernel — which is one small piece of a Linux distribution.
  5. Linux Mint is the most popular desktop Linux distribution and

the 3rd most widely used home operating system behind Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS.
  6. Open Source Linux based OS that is managed by a

    community called Project Fedora.
  7. Arch is installed as a minimal base system, configured by

the user upon which their own ideal environment is assembled by installing only what is required or desired for their unique purposes. GUI configuration utilities are not officially provided, and most system configuration is performed from the shell and a text editor.
  8. Linux was already established as an enterprise server platform in

2004, but free software was not a part of everyday life for most computer users. That's why Mark Shuttleworth gathered a small team of developers from one of the most established Linux projects (Debian) and set out to create an easy to use Linux desktop: Ubuntu.
  9. Android is a mobile operating system (OS) based on the

Linux kernel and currently developed by Google.
