Choosing a Mobile Design for Internet Retail

With the rapid and growing rise of mobile commerce in the United States and around the world, retailers of all sizes are finding value in targeting cellphone and tablet platforms. There exist numerous approaches which seek to guide the design and development of the mobile websites and native mobile applications which enable consumers to use their mobile devices to purchase from and interact with retailers online. These approaches fall largely into three major categories: responsive web design (RWD), mobile-first development, and native mobile application development. This document evaluates these strategies on the bases of user experience and business performance and provides recommendations for their implementation and adoption, with a specific focus on the Magneto e-commerce platform.
