Introduction To ARCore

Creating Augmented Reality apps has never been easy. With all the complex matrix math, OpenGL involved, it’s not easy for a regular android developer to create AR Apps easily. But Google’s ARCore and Sceneform SDK have solved this problem elegantly for mobile developers.

Launched in Google IO 2018, ARCore and Sceneform have been a hit among the mobile developers especially android developers owing to how easy it’s made AR development. Essentially speaking, Sceneform and ARCore are high level apis above all the complex calculations beneath.

This talk on ARCore and Sceneform would be a complete walkthrough of the 3 principles of ARCore. It would outline how Sceneform works and a live demo of creating a simple AR app using Sceneform SDK. Anyone and everyone looking to get started with AR Development would certainly find this talk inspiring to explore ARCore on their own!

  1. Augmented Reality A technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on

a user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view. ~Google
  2. Uses of AR • Medical Training • Retail • Repair

& Maintenance • Design & Modeling • Business Logistics • Tourism Industry • Classroom Education • Field Service
  3. Sceneform - It’s an SDK. - Sceneform makes it straightforward

to render realistic 3D scenes in AR and non-AR apps, without having to learn OpenGL. - Elegant integration with Android Studio. - An Android Studio plugin for importing, viewing, and building 3D assets.
  4. Some concepts... - Hit: ARCore uses hit testing to take

an (x,y) coordinate corresponding to the phone's screen and projects a ray into the camera's view of the world. - Oriented points lets you place virtual objects on angled surfaces. - Anchor: When you want to place a virtual object, you need to define an anchor to ensure that ARCore tracks the object's position over time.
