2. THE BEGINNING "I bought 40 books on How To Study Japanese in the beginning. I was 13 years old... I did not know how to start so I tried to put if off. " "I just landed in Canada, struggling with language, culture, social differences, food...everything.. you name it. I was really stressed out so I decided to retrive into my shell at the age of 15." "I found comfort in Japanese Anime very soon. I became a huge fan. The more I watched anime, the more I wanted to learn Japanese [as an escape to the harsh beginning of my immigration to Canada]. But that decision ­ studying Japanese was the turning point of my life, and it was the start of me discovering my inspirations." "The first thing I did was to find THE TEXTBOOK from that book pile." 2003 2005 2006
3. ESCALATION "Since I was stressed out with my English study at school, I decided to study Japanese 2 hours a day and then watch anime afterward. I do not want to study Japanese the conventional way that stresses me out already." "Words and emotions from Anime started to make more and more sense to me. I started to talk to the "Anime" characters in my head. Although my grammar was not perfect, I realized that I could create my own JAPAN like this." "I bought Japanese posters, transcribed my favourite anime scenes and started to sing songs from Anime." "I wrote diaries in Japanese and got caught by my mother, she requested me to do the same thing in English. " "Out of fear, I started to learn English the same way...." 2006-2007
