Summary: Fonts are not software, but they ought to be libre for the same reasons as software and encyclopedias. I've spent the last ten years as a software user freedom activist, and at the FSF Libre Planet 2015 conference I presented my work to free fonts: how I got started, where I'm going, and some of the hundreds of free fonts I've commissioned for writing systems around the world along the way. Finally I revealed my take on the most commonly asked question I'm asked about the software user freedom movement: how to earn money developing products while respecting users' freedoms and giving the products away free of charge.
