Learning Gmail Basics

Here's the presentation I used for the Women On Web initiative in Ahmedabad. It contains all the information to get started with Gmail from scratch.

2. 2 How to create new Gmail account?
3. 3 • type mail.google.com in addressbar of browser • fill up all details and click Next step button • click continue to Gmail button
4. 4 How to Sign in to Gmail if you already have account?
5. 5 • type https://mail.google.com in addressbar • if you already have an account, go to Sign In in top right corner
6. 6 • Enter Email-Id • Enter Password • Click Sign In How to Sign in/ Login ?

8. 8 How to Compose New Email and Send?
9. 9 • write email id of receiver • write subject • write content • click on Send • click on Compose dhruvashastri12@gmail.com
10. 10 How to check Draft?
11. 11 Click on Drafts • Draft is like saving some random thoughts written in email and can finish it later on before sending. • Gmail saves it automatically. • You can find all drafts in Drafts folder from left pannel.
12. 12 How to give label to new composing email?
13. 13 • Labels are to differentiate emails Like, keeping in different folders e.g: cooking, shoping • click on Compose • write Email • click on Drop-down triangle (1) • click on Lable (2) • select Label 1 2
14. 14 How to Delete an email?
15. 15 1 2 • select the box given left of the email which wants to delete • click on dustbin icon to delete the mail • deleted email goes to Trash
16. 16 • click on More Where to check Deleted mail ? • click on Trash
17. 17 How to delete email permanently? • check the box left of the mail you want to delete • click Delete forever button 1 2

20. 20 • click on Compose • click on Drop-down box • select label • select Add star How to create Starred Email before Sending? 1 2 3
21. 21 • Find starred messages • To see all your starred messages, click Starred on the left side of your Gmail, under Inbox
22. 22 How to search Starred email ? • write is:starred in searchbar above mails. • press Enter. • you will get to see stars left of mails list.
23. 23 How to search for a particular kind of star? • Search using has: with the star's name (e.g. has:yellow-star) to find messages with a particular star. • If you use inbox categories, messages you mark with a star will also appear in your Primary tab so they are easier to keep track of.
24. 24 Where to find stars? • go to Settings in Gear tab • go to General tab • hover your mouse over star icon • save changes 1 2 2 2 2 2 3 4 5
25. 25 How to add Signature to an Email?
26. 26 1 2 3 4 • select Settings from Gear tab • By default you would be in General tab, if its not then Select it • go to Signature • write signature, select checkbox • save changes 5
