1. road * Imagine the drop as a small person setting out on a long, winding road. This element always wraps around another element, placed to the right. Draw the enclosed element first, following the normal top-to-bottom rules, and then the road element last.
2. path 首 neck + 辶 road You’d be risking your neck taking that road—better find an alternate path. Or, imagine using a dinosaur’s long neck as a road. Who knows where this path will take you?
3. send 丷 horns + 大 large + 辶 road A large horned animal—perhaps a wooly mammoth? Cavemen used mammoths to send packages—imagine a prehistorical postal service with these large horned animals on all the roads. Remember to add a horizontal line above large to support the horns. (Recall 首 neck.)
4. car 十 ten + 田 rice field + 十 ten My car is so fast that I can cross ten rice fields in ten minutes.
5. take along 車 car + 辶 road If you want to take along passengers on your road trip, you’d better have a car.
6. in front 丷 horns + 月 moon + 刂 saber A legendary warrior with a horned helmet and a long saber, posing in front of the full moon. He moves so fast that you won’t see him until he’s standing right in front of you (and by then, of course, it’s too late.)
7. walking legs * Picture this element as the lower body of a person walking quickly, with their walking legs in motion and one arm swinging out in front.
8. summer 一 one + 自 oneself + 夂 walking legs In the summer, all I can think about is using my walking legs to get myself under a roof quickly (preferably the roof of an air-conditioned building!) One drop of sweat runs into my eye when I go walking on a hot summer’s day.
9. crown * Remember this element as a crown or hat. Don’t confuse it with 宀 house—unlike the house element, crown does not have a chimney.
10. carry 冖 crown + 車 car + 辶 road That guy with the crown is always demanding tribute—you need a car to carry all his gifts along the road.
