  1. stretch * Don’t confuse this element with 辶 road, though

both elements have three strokes, and both wrap around the bottom left of another element. You may want to remember stretch as a stretched out 3, with a long third stroke to emphasize the stretched bottom half.
  2. build 聿 calligraphy brush + 廴 stretch First, draw a

building plan with your calligraphy brush, and then stretch it out into a 3-D building!
  3. garment A strangely-dressed person with a top hat and a

On the left, the second and third strokes combine: 衤 cloak. Beneath another element, the top hat disappears: scarf.

nightmare that I went to the market and realized I was only wearing a top hat and a towel.
  7. older sister 女 woman + 市 market It is the

older sister’s job to go to the market. (The 妹 younger sister is 未 not yet old enough.)
  8. rain 一 ceiling + 巾 towel + 丶 drops Is

it raining? No, that’s just water dripping from the towel hung from the ceiling. Or: A picture of a window with rain outside.
  9. winter 夂 walking legs + 冫 icicles In winter, it’s

so cold that two icicles form on my walking legs. The two drops that form the bottom element mean ice, and can also appear as a left-hand element: 冫
