  2. WHAT IS RFID ? • RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is

a form of wireless communication that uses electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in radio frequency portion of the electromagnetnetic spectrum to uniquely identify an object, animal or person. RFID system is transferring data from a portable device, called tag, to an RFID reader to execute a particular action on the tag based on the tag provided identification or location.
  3. Radio frequency Identification (RFID) is currently considered as one of

the most used technologies for an automatic identification of objects or people. Based on a combination of tags and readers, RFID technology has widely been applied in various areas including supply chain, production and traffic control systems. However, despite of its numerous advantages, the technology brings out many challenges and concerns still not being attracting more and more researchers especially the security and privacy issues. In this paper, we review some of the recent research works using RFID solutions and dealing with security and privacy issues
  4. Components of RFID RFID Reader : A reader typically contains

a radio frequency module, a control unit and a coupling element to the transponder. The Transponder : which represents the actual data-carrying device of an RFID system, normally consists of a coupling element and an electronic microchip. When the transponder, which does not usually possess its own voltage supply (battery), is not within the interrogation zone of a reader it is totally passive. The transponder is only activated when it is within the interrogation zone of a reader.

  7. Conclusion It is astonishing to see how a simple wireless

device like RFID can raise such serious security issues which can lead to havoc in coming future if not looked upon. RFID will be a widely used technology in coming future and all the security researchers need to shift their mind towards this small piece of technology. At the end I would like to say that RFID will make our lives easy but it needs to be handled meticulously otherwise people may lose their trust in technology.
