LSST Data Management’s New Year’s resolution for 2016: Write the
Docs. Jonathan Sick Software Dev LSST DM, SQuaRE @jonathansick
LSST DM is building a software stack to handle the
largest imaging survey, ever.
Level 1 Alert Production 10 million events, every night Every
60 seconds
Level 2 Data Release 37 billion objects (15 petabytes of
tables) 5.5 million images (500 petabytes) after ten years. Every year
Level 2.5 User Processing Your measurement code. Run on the
LSST processing queue.
Level 3 Science Interfaces Tools for doing science with LSST
data.
The Software Stack is a key legacy of LSST. We
are designing the LSST Stack to process any image dataset, from any telescope.
1. We are creating a new ‘usability czar’ role. 2.
We are re-booting how we make docs; building a ‘culture of docs.’ Developing for usability.
community.lsst.org A discussion forum for anyone building or using LSST
software and data.
Technical Note Series Technotes are a way for us to
record & publish the by-products of LSST software research and development.
