Evolution of (Web) WYSIWYGS
Uhh...What’s a Wyssiwg? Acronym for: “What You See Is What
You Get”
Common (Print) Wyssiwyg Editors: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Ilustrator,
Adobe Photoshop and etc etc...
Print Wysiwygs (Print paper) Web Wysiwygs (Make Websites)
So what’s new? It’s 2014 come on guys...
The Newest Duo:
But first...let’s visit an old aquantaince: Adobe Dreamweaver
Dreamweaver targets Front-End Web Developers
Dreamweaver is a Wysiwyg + IDE a “jack of all
trades”
Dreamweaver wanted to GUI’fy Web Development Workflow (..it didn’t work...)
Runner Up... (Macaw)
Macaw targets Web Designers (GTFO Photoshop) Not Web Developers
Macaw is a “Polished” WYSIWYG +Tackles CSS Bloat +Responsive Breakpoints
+Typography
No .psd/.pdf just html+css Macaw wants to Replace Photoshop for
Web Design ( )
And Last But Not Least... Google “Web Designer”
Google “Web Designer” aka: “Web Animator” targets... CSS/JS Animation
Google “Web Designer” is a “Streamlined” WYWSIWYG +Advanced CSS Animation
+Advanced Shapes (Pen Tool) +Very Ad Centric
NOTE: Google “Web Designer” Is Not for making Websites... (it’s
for Ads...) -No “Responsive Design Tools” -Has CSS/ID Bloat
Google “Web Designer” wants Making Ads Easier + CSS Animation
Easier
...but mostly Ads/Money (Gotta Feed the mothership)
Conclusion: WYSIWYGS ARE Evolving.. (or just Learning)
A GUI looks nice... ...but can’t replace an IDE/Text Editor
for Web Dev Workflow
Macaw & Google “Web Designer” Understand This. (But Adobe Chugs
Along...)
Web WYSIWYGS Are Finnally Starting to Target Real Demands... Aka:
Web Design & CSS Animation/Ad Dev
