I had the opportunity to give an "inspirational" speech at an IB Graduation. It was a sweet journey down memory lane. Because I cannot even begin to understand the scrutiny and benchmark these kids face nowadays with Instagram, TikTok, et al., I ended up doing an empathy exercise with a younger me.
I bet on sci-fi to challenge the audience to imagine a possible future. Using a book I read as a teenager, at a time when I would read any book I could find. Nowadays, I am more of a fluent book purchaser and aspiring reader.
Key takeaways I wished the graduators would absorb:
1. (short term) Be cool. Do not be judgemental of yourself and others. Enjoy the ride. Teenage will end soon.
2. Lifelong learning mindset.
3. Keep looking for your Ikigai.
