  1. It communicates to the audience the attitude, mood, reaction or

idea of the character as it relates to the story.
  2. Straight ahead animation starts at the first drawing and works

drawing to drawing to the end of a scene.
  3. All actions, with few exceptions, follow an arc or slightly

circular path. They give the animation a more natural action and a better flow.
  4. This action adds to and enriches the main action and

adds more dimension to the character animation.
  5. A variety of slow and fast timing within a scene

adds texture and interest to the movement.
  6. The basic principles of drawing form, weight, volume solidity and

the illusion of three dimension apply to animation.
  7. After Effects (commonly referred to as AE) is the flagship

program for motion graphics. It allows users to animate, alter, and composite media in 2D and 3D space.
  8. This software is used among nearly every 2D or 3D

computer graphics pipeline and motion designers are no exception.
  9. Illustrator is an advanced vector-based software from Adobe’s Creative Cloud.

It has a very powerful and sophisticated vector drawing tools, as well as advanced type tools that are great for creating graphics for your motion designs.
  10. Autodesk is a leader in 3D design, engineering, and entertainment

software. Here, you can manipulate your motion graphic assets in 3D space.
  11. CINEMA 4D is a 3D modeling, animation, and rendering application

developed by MAXON. One major draw for CINEMA 4D is the CINEWARE pipeline that is integrated into After Effects. With CINEWARE you are able to import CINEMA 4D scenes and assets into After Effects.
  12. In After Effects there is only ever one project open,

which acts as a container for all of the compositions and other files needed which are all situated and accessed in the Project Panel.
  13. Layers can be • parented to one another via the

small 'pickwick' or dropdown, which can be great for animating. • hidden from the timeline when not required via the 'shy' button. Animation curves are also available here for when fine control of animation falloffs are required.
  14. Expressions are a simple scripting language which allows much more

granular control of parenting a layers attributes to another in the same or different composition.
  15. Creating kinetic typography with After Effects is great fun. It

is easy to create a wide range of animations both in 2D and 3D because text in After Effects is able to follow 3D paths.
  16. Shape Layers in After Effects allow the creation of vector

shapes, and with After Effects bezier tool selectors is 'almost' a mini Illustrator.
  17. For a long time After Effects was a 2.5D application,

which meant that it could manipulate flat layers in 3D space, but in the last couple of versions, it is possible to create true 3D objects based on splines or Shape Layers in After Effects and light it interactively using the After Effects lighting system.
  18. Instead of looking for another application, check out the huge

range of After Effects plugins to see if you can find one that does what's needed.
