  1. CONFLICT MANAGEMENT VS CONFLICT RESOLUTION Conflict Management is actively dealing

    with a problem or issue. Conflict Resolution is actively working to mediate a problem or issue.
  2. TWO TYPES OF CONFLICTS Positive Conflict is constructive type of

    conflict that challenges you outside your comfort zone or knowledge base. Negative Conflict is a potentially destructive type of conflict that is not productive.
  3. “PASSIVE” MANAGEMENT STYLE The passive conflict management style is simply

    when you ignore the issue or handle it in a roundabout way
  4. “AGGRESSIVE” MANAGEMENT STYLE The aggressive conflict management style occurs when

    physical and/or verbal communication directs problem solving.
  5. “ASSERTIVE” MANAGEMENT STYLE The assertive conflict management style occurs when

    either party is honest, direct, sincere and wants the issue resolved for all involved.
  6. HOW TO BE ASSERTIVE • Pre-Conflict Know department mission/vision Know

    position roles/expectations Respect (Empathize) • During Conflict Communicate Collaborate, don’t Compromise • Post-Conflict Situation-Check
  7. FINAL REMINDERS It’s normal to experience some form of conflict

    Not all conflicts are between colleagues Handle conflicts immediately if possible You’re not alone in managing/resolving conflicts Be proactive instead of reactive afterwards
