Useful robots
Co-create a useful robot and gain an insight into how
top designers in the creative industries create new products and services.
Learn by doing Iterative User-centred
In your groups, 20 mins to discuss and draw what
a campus robot would do and what it would be like. Have lots of ideas - don't throw anything away. Quick, draw
What problems does your robot solve? What needs does it
meet? Who are the users? Where and when do they need it? Now think…
As a [type of user] I want to [do a
task] so that [outcome is achieved] User stories
What don't you know? What would you show users? What
would you ask them? Ask people what they do now? What stories do they tell? Get out of the building
What did you find out? What surprised you? Re-write the
user stories Re-draw the robot based on user insight What did you learn?

How would people find out about it? How would they
get it? How would they use it? What might go wrong? What if it’s a service?
