  1. From the questionnaire we gave out the main ages answering

were shown to be 16-19, this immediately let us know that the teenage age group in particular would be our absolute main target audience due to the fact that they were the people giving all the opinions and answers throughout the questionnaire. Having the teenage target audience also made it a lot easier for us as a group to work with because they're people we can easily relate to and link many interests to. After we identified our target audience we then used a lot of the popularly answered questions from the audience research questionnaire to apply to our media product and as previously noted we did take a lot of their opinions throughout the questionnaire into consideration but the questionnaire was only brief so that we could apply a lot of our own concepts and ideas too. We also used teenagers as the actors as they’re a group of protagonists that the main viewing audience can easily relate to them throughout the film. IDENTIFYING OUR TARGET AUDIENCE
  2. One way in which I attracted the target audience was

by including codes and conventions of the thriller genre, such as:  Suspense (through film and sound)  Build of tension (through film and sound)  Dim/dull lighting  Uncertainty • Innocent protagonists One way we created a good amount of suspense to attract our audience is by leaving the opening on a slight cliff-hanger so that when the viewer is watching the opening they’re then more encouraged to continue on watching the entire film. We also used sound to help create the suspense as we ended the opening and the cliff-hanger with a very eerie and chilling track. ATTRACTING THE AUDIENCE
  3. 75% of thriller viewers are 16-25 and are generally students

so our target audience also matches the primary viewing audience of thrillers. With this knowledge in mind we kept with the idea of having the group of protagonists in the same age range as the viewers’ so in result the viewers have a plot in which they can relate to the characters in some way, not necessarily in the situation but in terms of attitude of personality. To expand this we then used a number of codes and conventions matched with a good filming location and a plot that could help to incorporate both the conventions and location to result in a good opening sequence. Moreover we also included a good and clear soundscape to bring everything together. ADDRESSING THE AUDIENCE
  4. Our final edit of the thriller was shown to the

rest of my AS media studies class and we received some positive feedback and constructive criticisms such as:  There is good linear continuity throughout the whole opening.  The opening title animation ‘Abandoned’ was well constructed and effective.  The location used was well matched to the genre. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  A section of the voice dubbing is slightly out of synchronisation with the lips of the actor.  There is a lot of potential for building suspense that was unidentified by the group, so we missed out on making the opening a lot more powerful.  The takes could have been shorter, which is feedback I agree with highly because many of the takes were very long and there is a lot we could have done as a group cut down the length of them.
