  1. We all know it – Facebook is the third largest

country, you are what you tweet and people care more about posting pictures of a wedding on Instagram than about being at the wedding.
  2. But no matter how much things have changed since social

media was introduced, communications is still about access to two commodities: TIME & ATTENTION
  3. As a longform storytelling platform, what Narratively asks for is:

This is possibly scarcest resource ever. time time to read time to read long articles time to read long articles online
  4. How can we get readers to know and care about

    Narratively? Strategy goals: Awareness Engagement
  5. helpful useful timely informative relevant practical actionable generous credible brief

entertaining fun occasionally funny @sree (follow for great tips) says these are the ingredient of social media success:
  6. Plus (I add): We use our social media feed as

a separate storytelling medium where we build context and conversations around our stories. READY TO SHARE (And share dinosaur pictures. #win)
  7. We position ourself as a go-to account for people who

are interested in our world: #storytelling, #longform, #humans, #NewYork. We treat our social media accounts as if Narratively were a person. We post what this “Narratively-person” would like, share, say. (and #bodegacats—within reason.)
  8. We measure our social media success according to two metrics:

    1. Reach — how many people are we talking to, or are talking about us. 2. Engagement — how many people are talking to us, and how much.
  9. REACH More than about the number of followers, we care

about influential followers: our reach depends on the number followers our followers have. We cherish our influential followers and give them special attention...
  10. ..but we show our love to our others followers: (Ben

knew about the dinosaur in Queens! #followerWin)
  11. ENGAGEMENT What is even better than influential followers, are engaged

followers. Interactions with your audience is where the potential of social media lies — we love that we can have conversations with our audience, and we keep it going.
  12. It’s not always good. Sometimes our readers critique Narratively via

social media. We take those posts even more seriously, and always address them immediately. In certain cases, we follow up personally. Me or someone else from Narratively contacts the person directly to discuss their feedback.
  13. We reply to comments, interact with our follower’s posts and

involve our audience by soliciting them to share content with us asking their opinion on our stories.
  14. CREATE—a social media persona reflecting Narratively’s personality; SHARE—content to make

the interaction with social media worth per se; INTERACT—with the audience, encouraging participation; UPDATE—the media mix, the type of posts, not just the posts; EXPERIMENT—always.
