macmojo for beginners

Making a video to boost your business or organisation is easy with a mobile phone and a few apps.
Here is the script :
I run The Edinburgh Reporter which is online and in print
I produce multimedia content for the website and for social media - this is made up of words, photos, audio, video - and sometimes is a rehash of one piece of content….
Some photos are taken with a mirrorless camera and then occasionally the photos dumped onto the phone and incorporated into a video - when I get a moment or two!
I mainly produce video on my phone using FilmicPro or Mavis or using the native camera app to film
I use a mike to get the best audio quality - there are ways round that so I will tell you about that….
I then edit on the phone (using LumaFusion) or iPad and sometimes use a variety of other apps as part of that process.
PLEASE don’t get too hung up on the apps - there are some which are for iOS only and some for Android - or both - but there is usually a way to do much the same thing on any kind of phone or iPad.
I do have lists of apps and screenshots here - but I have no intention of showing you how to use every single one! I just want to show you what is possible - then it might take a bit of research or trial and error.
I also write articles, edit other people’s articles for online and for our monthly print edition - which you can read in this very building!
What do I do? It’s all news and features
Video - usually interviews - the kind of thing you might see on the TV news are called packages of 1 minute 20 seconds. To reduce your content to that size you have to kill your babies!
With that video I might take photos - or if I forget then yes there is an app for that!
And now I can quite easily use the same audio - edited slightly differently - to compile some podcasts.
I put the podcasts on either Podbean or Anchor - but the latter is easier to use with a phone.
What kind of social enterprises are you running?
What is the message you want to get out?
Which mediums do you use and which would you like to use?
Photos - make a slideshow
Video - use snippets
Audio - Podcasts from Montgomery Street Lane….
Spend a while talking about this - go round the room
What makes a good photo?
Light
subject
focus
post editing
Snapseed for editing photos or VSCO for really good filters
Show them how to turn on the grid and focus too - practice taking photos of each other first - NO PORTRAIT - all Landscape please!
SNAPCHAT? does anyone use it? filters - and Messenger
WhatsApp to send video or WeTransfer
Who uses Instagram?
PHOTOS AND FOOTAGE ALWAYS LANDSCAPE
My suggestion is that we will make a promotional video for all the businesses represented here today.
Now these clips can be used alone - they can be combined into a video which will tell people who is here
We can strip out the audio if there is any to use that audio as a standalone too…
If you ask a question that can have a yes/no answer then that is what you will get and it is not very entertaining.
Pretend this video is for someone - to explain the story to them… so if that is your granny or a parent make sure they would get it!
'Looking space'
Ways of putting someone facing the light without blinding them!
What not to do….. sit someone in a place that is too small - make them look straight at the camera turn on the auto captions - forget to check them… and also make your footage so shaky it is too hard to watch...
Don’t ever download anything that costs unless you know about it!
Most are freemium which means they are free to start with and then you get charged for additional features.
ADOBE SPARK POST - animate !! or make a collage
Hype Type is a bad replacement for something called LEGEND

OVER I LOVE OVER!!
mojo

Animoto for iOS and Android with templates and also option to start from scratch - this is for Stories
Beedeo
Boomerang
Clips
Clipomatic
Cute Cut
Diptic - layout with photos and video
Filmakr
Filmic Pro
Filmora Go
Gravie - it is actually defunct!
Hyperlapse - great way to take a walking shot…
ImageMaker
iMovie
IntroMate - yes brilliant app!
iXpandDrive
KineMaster - also a good editor
Kinematic
Mavis
Native Camera app
Luma Fusion
Over
500 fonts for android
9 x16 is for Stories
16 x 9 is for YouTube
1:1 is for Twitter and Instagram
And those are only some….
Animoto has all the features that make designing and editing your own video fun and easy
Beedeo - I only found out this was defunct when I was writing this course….
Boomerang - DO NOT USE THIS - it is completely overused and over rated and likely to give you a headache
Clips - you can use a photo to create a video with a voice over - there is a Happy Christmas template….GO TO THE NEXT SCREEN FOR A QUICK EXAMPLE…. (the project is open on the phone….
Clipomatic is a really cool wee app… subtitles are important….
SPLICE will animate your photos
WE have not even started talking about article and Steller…..
Camera filming something and click the speech bubble - then you will see the words on the screen immediately
This is still the very best app - and one that you probably need very little skill for….. REMEMBER TO GO back to slide 8 from here…..
Clipomatic
Wizibel
Headliner
This is for selfie videos - marketing type videos.
Selvi - Write a script - if you’re doing a video to carer then LOOK AT THE CAMERA!
Live Teleprompter
I use Evernote
There are loads of apps - just GOOGLE!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7KZrt_cHH0
Record your screen - why? it is a cool way to show people how to do something or indeed it is a way of incorporating content from another app into your video….
Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls, then tap next to Screen Recording.
Swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen. On iPhone X or later or iPad with iOS 12 or later, or iPadOS, swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
Press deeply on gray record icon and tap Microphone.
Tap Start Recording, then wait for the three-second countdown.
Open Control Center and tap red record icon. Or tap the red status bar at the top of your screen and tap Stop.
Go to the Photos app and select your screen recording. You can also do this on an Android phone - and did you know that you can record what you do on a desktop too?!
So if you are going to read the news then you have to have a script….. and make it sound like you are not actually reading the news….
A podcast is more chatty than the BBC news
I always tell people that I will interrupt them and that it will be more like a conversation…
Ferrite allows you to make sure that you are recording at the best volume - and then you flip your phone round and it allows you to edit it - right there on your phone.
Voice memo - just record using the native app on your phone
Anchor is a means of having a radio station of your own - the best thing is that it goes on to a load of different platforms
Podbean is a way of getting your podcast to air
Wizibel is a way of creating visual audio
Headliner will actually take a load of text and put it on to a visual audio too - you can add in your own photos. Show them a project being done on Headliner - photo and a short piece of audio - take the audio from Luma and put it on the laptop and then drop it into Headliner
Lumen5 needs a whole training course of its own… once it is set up with your branding then you can take an article and drop it into Lumen which will transform it for you into something you can share on Facebook or put a link somewhere or download to put it on Twitter for example
Even if you just know how to take a better photo and use it on social media then you have learned something today.
This is free promotion of your business.
Use it - although use it wisely!
