    VOLUNTARILY 3. To meet their common economic, social and cultural needs 4. Through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise
  4. PURPOSE OF A COOPERATIVE 1. Encourage thrift and savings mobilization

    among the members 2. Generate funds and extend credit to the members 3. Provide goods and services
  5. MEMBER-BASED MEMBER-OWNED MEMBER-FRIENDLY MEMBER-CO-OPERATION • “In Short, MEMBERS are the

    key to the SUCCESS or FAILURE of the Cooperative” • Thus, No one shall be considered as Member without undergoing PMES to protect this identity.
  6. UNIQUE IDENTITY OF A COOP • It is both an

    association of people and a business enterprise. • Members come together to achieve a common goal – That common goal is to help them acquire a product or service to satisfy an economic need. – To achieve these goals, they go into business themselves
  7. WHEN DOES COOPERATIVE FAILS • When Member have no Real

    OWNERSHIP • When they see themselves as CLIENTS to be served ONLY • When Members feel disinterested or feel alienated • When Members seeks for their OWN interest, not for the over-all membership
  8. CORE PHILOSOPHY OF THE COOPERATIVE 1. Help oneself thru the

    Coop 2. Through the COOP, help OTHERS
  9. DEMOCRATIC MEMBER CENTRE • Cooperatives are democratic organization, controlled by

    their members, who actively participate in setting their policies and making decisions. Men and women serving as elect representatives are accountable to the membership. In primary cooperatives, members have equal voting rights (one member, one vote)
  10. COOPERATIVE VALUES 1. SELF-HELP ü In cooperatives, people help each

    other while helping themselves by working together for mutual benefit ü The Cooperative teaches that if you want to be helped, help yourself first. ü You can be of help to other Members directly or indirectly if you are a good member, not a coop liability
  11. COOPERATIVE VALUES 4. DEMOCRACY ü In the Cooperative, everyone can

    participate and will be heard. For example during General Assembly, everybody can make suggestions or share ideas for the improvement of the cooperative.
  12. COOPERATIVE VALUES 5. EQUALITY ü In the Cooperative, every member

    has equal rights no matter the status in life ü No rich, no poor. Officer or not same policy applies.
  13. COOPERATIVE VALUES 7. HONESTY ü Being truthful in all dealings/transactions

    and circumstances, inside and outside the office ü Coming the office on time
  14. COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES 1. VOLUNTARY & OPEN MEMBERSHIP ü Open to

    all persons able to use their services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.
  15. COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES 2. DEMOCRATIC MEMBER CONTROL ü Democratic organizations controlled

    by their members, who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions. In primary cooperatives, members have equal voting rights (one member, one vote).
  16. COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES 3. MEMBERS’ ECONOMIC PARTICIPATION ü Members contribute equitably

    to, and democratically control, the capital of their cooperative. At least part of that capital is usually the common property of the cooperative.
  17. COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES 4. AUTONOMY AND INDEPENDENCE ü Cooperatives are autonomous,

    self-help organizations controlled by their members. If they enter into agreements with other organizations, including governments, or raise capital from external sources, they do so on terms that ensure democratic control by their members and maintain cooperative autonomy.
  18. COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES 5. EDUCATION, TRAINING & INFORMATION ü Cooperatives provide

    education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers, & employees so that they can contribute effectively to the development or their cooperatives. They inform the general public, particularly young people & opinion leaders, about the nature and benefits of cooperation.
  19. COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES 6. COOPERATION AMONG COOPERATIVES ü Cooperatives serve their

    members most effectively & strengthen the cooperative movement by working together through local, national, regional & international structures.

    member needs, cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies accepted by their members.
