The UX of edutainment apps for under 8s

We will share our learnings from the design and launch of “Okee in Medical Imaging” a revolutionary iOS and Android application built in collaboration with the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne. RCH Educational Play therapist Siobhan Greene devised the initial idea two years ago after routinely finding many families were unprepared for what an MRI, CT or Nuclear Medicine scan involved. Research shows that children who are prepared for procedures cope significantly better.

  2. My daughter Kate (5)* really enjoyed the app. She found

it really interesting and she wanted to look at all the games, not just the nuclear medicine one. Kate got a kick out of recognising staff from the videos. She is still playing the games and feels like abit of an expert now. Kate’s normally compliant but suffers from anxiety, this app gave us a great avenue for discussion and normalising the experience “ *name changed for privacy
