  2. What does it look like to design ethically in techʼs

  3. Ethics [ eth-iks ] The rules of conduct governing what

    is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour of an individual or a group. Ethics tend to suggest aspects of universal fairness. Morals [ mawr-uhls ] An individualʼs particular values concerning what is right and what is wrong. Morals usually connote an element of subjective preference.
  4. We create products we hope will be experienced in ideal

    circumstances, in an ideal world, full of ideal users. In reality, we know the world is messy and complicated. But when we reduce human beings simply to “users” in our systems, itʼs easy to lose sight of the fact that many live with systemic oppression, inequity, and interpersonal violence. Discuss harm, ethics, and unintended consequences early and often with your team 5. Take an active role in understanding the data and technology that will power your designs 6. Try out some of the existing tools (here is a template for the Modified Black Mirror Brainstorm) 7. Spread awareness of ethical design by having conversations in your design network
