    would be a better, fairer, more productive, happier world. Vision problems affect us more than any other disability— impeding our ability to get an education, support our families and to build a better life. Clearly is looking for innovative, scalable solutions that can help the 2.5 billion people worldwide with vision problems left uncorrected.
  2. Innovation Clearly is looking for concepts that are significantly better

    than current options in diagnosis, training, manufacturing, distribution, and data collection. Innovative concepts must have the potential to reach the world’s population living at the bottom of the pyramid.
  3. Scalability Clearly is looking for entries with the potential to

    reach half a million people in need of vision correction. Strong entries will demonstrate how they grow their impact to .
  4. Sustainability Top applicants will present a strong financial model and

    patch to achieve it. Clearly is looking for finalists with demonstrated market traction that supports the projected financial model.
  5. Leadership Clearly is looking for applicants with a strong grasp

    on the problem, the potential obstacles, and the requirements for success. They are able to attract resources, recruit a strong team, and demonstrate entrepreneurial problem-solving.
  6. Explain the problem you are solving. High quality applications will

    clearly describe a significant vision care problem and provides evidence to support their answer. The answer should identify the impact of this problem on a specific community of the global population living at the bottom of the pyramid. The answer should demonstrate a strong grasp on the needs of this specific community.
  7. What is your solution? High-quality applications create a clear link

    between the problem they have previously identified and a solution that is consistent with the desired impact of the competition (vision care for those with the least access living at the bottom of the pyramid). Applicants are scored on the clarity of their answer. Both experts in vision care and non-experts should be able to understand your solution.
  8. What was the inspiration or genesis for this solution? High

    quality answers share a compelling story about why the applicant wants to solve this problem and the first thing they did on their journey to solve this problem. Strong answers will illustrate how the applicant has first hand experience with the problem.
  9. Why does your solution produce significantly better results than others

    trying to solve the same problem? Applicants must explain why they are significantly better than what is currently offered or tried in the past. For example, it is not enough to say that a solution is less expensive or easier to use. The applicant must explain why it is less expensive or easier to use. The applicant should provide evidence of strong insights into the user’s existing behaviors to provide a compelling case for why a user will change their behavior and adopt this new solution.
  10. How is your solution financially sustainable? Strong applications will present

    a clear and convincing business model for how their solution generates a reliable source of funding. The applicant should clearly indicate who pays for the solution or how they acquire funding and provide evidence for why this business model is viable. Pre-market ventures can point to pilot programs, commitments from partners, and evidence from other in-market business models.
  11. How do you scale your solution to impact over one

    million people? Strong answers will provide a clear narrative of how many people they have already served and a compelling answer for what is required to grow their impact to one million people. Applicants should clearly describe how they will measure the effectiveness of their solution. We are looking for applicants with a strong understanding of what is required to achieve scale.
  12. What makes you a strong team for this concept? (supplemental

    file upload required) Succeeding as an entrepreneur is a challenging endeavor. Strong answers will illustrate why the team has the experience, skills, and key roles filled to execute on the solution. Strong teams are comprised of more than one person with clear roles for each team member. Applicants without a team need to provide a convincing strategy for how they will recruit teammates.
  13. How will you use the Clearly prize winnings? (supplemental file

    upload required) We are looking for applicants who clearly understand what is required to achieve their goals, capture the market, and measure impact. Applicants will show how they will use the prize winnings to accelerate the launch or growth of their project. Applicants should describe their key growth metrics.
  14. Judge Recommendation The applicant should provide a persuasive application convincing

    you they are likely to have success over the next three to five years. Based on all the materials provided, is this applicant a strong candidate for a finalist position?
