Beyond Expectations Traveler's Insights 1/2 Japan's public transportation is globally renowned for its quality. Let’s explore some of its unique features that make it truly remarkable! ©2024 27th Co., Ltd. All Rights Reserved.
  3. Shinkansen 1 PUNCTUALITY In Japan, it's considered normal for the

Shinkansen to arrive exactly on time. Even a delay of 5-10 minutes is considered significant by Japanese standards. In contrast, high-speed trains in other countries are often tens of minutes late, which is not considered unusual. NETWORK It has different lines, including the Tokaido, Sanyo, Tohoku, Joetsu, and Hokuriku Shinkansen. Each line efficiently links various regions. For instance, the Tokaido Shinkansen connects Tokyo and Osaka in about 2.5 hours, while the Sanyo Shinkansen runs from Osaka to Fukuoka. Traveler's Insights 1/2 ©2024 27th Co., Ltd. 4. 2 Taxi SPIRIT OF HOSPITALITY In the past, Japanese taxis

displayed the driver's name as a symbol of accountability and pride. However, this was abolished in August 2023 for privacy and safety reasons. Despite the change, Japanese taxi drivers are still known for their exceptional hospitality. COST Japanese taxis are among the most expensive in the world, reflecting their quality. The cost per kilometer is among the top ten in the world. However, there's absolutely no need to tip in Japan. 5. Bus 3 TYPES Local Bus: Operates in urban and rural

areas, serving regions not covered by rail. Highway Bus: Ideal for intercity travel. More affordable than the Shinkansen or flights, making it popular with budget travelers. Reservations are often required. Airport Shuttle Bus: Connects airports with major city stations, convenient for travelers with large luggage. BOARDING METHODS Buses in Japan can be very different. Some require you to board at the front, others at the back. Fares can be paid in advance or when you get off the bus. Routes may have a flat fare or distance-based fares, depending on the area. Traveler's Insights 1/2 ©2024 27th Co., Ltd. All Rights Reserved. Tap your IC card when boarding this type of bus. Even Japanese people can find it confusing!
  6. Train 4 PUNCTUALITY Even a one-minute delay can prompt an

apology announcement! SUPER QUIET INSIDE It's expected to be quiet on the train. Talking loudly or talking on the phone is considered bad manners and may attract disapproving looks. IC CARDS ARE CONVENIENT You can buy a ticket, use a pass, or use an IC card to board trains. For tourists, JR East offers the Welcome Suica card, which can be used anywhere you see the IC card logo across Japan's transportation systems. Traveler's Insights 1/2 ・・・ ©2024 27th Co., Ltd. While it is mostly prefered in official/public settings in other countries (stations, airports, military etc), Japanese people very often use the 24-hour clock in daily occasions, too. We don’t use “ごぜん” or “ごご” in the 24-hour format; expressions like “ごぜん19じ” are not correct.

Rush hour in Japan, especially in large cities, is famously intense. From 7–9 a.m. and 5–8 p.m., trains fill to capacity, sometimes reaching over 200% occupancy. To help manage the crowds, “pusher staff” assist passengers in boarding safely.
  18. Traveler's Insights 2/2 Extra Tips Women-only cars in Japan are

available mainly during weekday morning rush hours (until around 9:30 a.m.), but in Osaka, they’re available all day on weekends.
