We Read Too: How I created a central resource of
children and teen books wri5en by authors of color.
We read to know we are not alone. — C.S.
Lewis

The Coopera*ve Children’s Book Center reported in 2016 that out
of 3,400 children’s books published in the US, only 12% were wriEen by people of color.
My love of reading started when I learned as a
toddler.

We Read Too has had an impact on parents, educators,
librarians and authors.
In order to make We Read Too accessible to more
people, I reached out to the community for help.
The Android app is coming next month along with a
new version of the iPhone app.
Although We Read Too is increasing discoverability of books by
PoC, it is not solving the real issue at hand.
Authors of color need more access to the publishing industry
and opportuni6es to be supported in their cra7. Our stories deserve to be told and there are audiences craving representa4on.
