    Target  Group:  Children  at  the  Intellectual  Disability   Unit  (ID  Unit),  their  families,  and  staff  of  the  ID  Unit    
  2. LDPA  Child  Protec1on  Ac1vi1es  Over  the  Past  Year   • 

     Child  Protec1on  Training  for  the  ID  Unit  given  by  Friends   Interna1onal   •   Emergency  and  disaster  planning  workshop  given  by  Caritas  Australia   Project  Team  to  ID  Unit  Staff.   •   ID  Unit  created  an  Outside  Media  Consent  Form   •   LDPA  has  made  addi1ons  to  their  Child  Protec1on  Policy  concerning   employment.   •   ID  Unit  has  appointed  two  Child  Protec1on  Officers   •   LDPA  has  par1cipated  in  Child  Protec1on  Network  Mee1ng     •   Par1cipa1on  in  Child  Par1cipa1on  Training  with  Save  the  Children  
  3. Successes  in  Child  Protec1on   •   Par1cipants  of  the  training

     given  by  friends  Interna1onal  are  now   capable  of  facilita1ng  Child  Protec1on  Training  to  staff,  parents,  and   children.   •   The  ID  Unit  just  installed  a  school  bell  for  beginning  and  ending  learning   1me  and  for  emergencies.     •   ID  Unit  has  taken  ini1a1ve  to  create  their  own  Child  Protec1on  Policy.   •   LDPA’s  Caritas  Project  Team  and  the  Disability  Rights  Promo1on  Unit   will  be  working  together  to  facilitate  training  for  all  LDPA  staff  in  late   March/early  April.   •   ID  Unit  is  taking  child  protec1on  more  seriously    than  before.  
  4. Lessons  Learned   •   Some  things  take  pa1ence  and  understanding.

      •   The  ID  Unit  is  very  capable  of  crea1ng  their  own  trainings  now,  but   need  some  support  with  informa1on.   •   We  need  local  ini1a1ves  to  make  a  difference.   •   It  is  easy  for  people  who  don’t  work  with  children  to  forget  about   Child  Protec1on.   •   It  is  very  wise  to  get  youth  involved.  
  5. Challenges  and  Needs   •   Time  and  scheduling.   • 

     Cultural  and  social  norms  and  beliefs.    People  have  different  ideas  on   issues.   •   Advocacy  and  awareness  to  the  right  people.   •   Leadership  in  Child  Protec1on  issues  from  the  government  and  local   organiza1ons,  rather  than  INGOs.  
  6. Future  Plans   •   Reports  required  from  local  authori1es  for

     employment  for  all   employees,  including  incoming  staff.   •   Training  for  all  LDPA  staff.   •   Sugges1on  of  Youth  Union  involvement  in  Child  Protec1on  awareness   and  advocacy  to  the  Child  Protec1on  Network  in  Lao  PDR.   •   Sugges1on  to  LDPA  and  Handicap  Interna1onal  to  encourage  local   ini1a1ves  in  Child  Protec1on  through  DRPU  ac1vi1es  and  the  DPO   network.
