  2. Examples of consistent colour scheme Examples from the TV listings

Examples from the Documentary Our pull quote stood out amongst the rest of the text as it was enlarged and coloured blue to match the general colour scheme of our documentary. We chose to highlight key words within the crosshead the same colour blue to stand out and match the colour scheme. We used a blue background for the ‘Top Tips for Internet Safety’ box, as this maintained the colour scheme and with a slightly different shade of blue, drew the reader’s attention to this. For the title of our documentary, we used blue large font to make it stand out. We chose this blue as it relates to social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. As you can see, this image of twitter which we have included reflects this link with the blue colour scheme. We have also used this shade of blue faded as a caption for our expert interviewee’s.
  3. Examples of consistent images Examples from the TV listings Examples

from the Documentary We used this high angle shot of somebody on their phone at the beginning of our documentary, and used it again as the main image in the TV listings magazine. We used this shot while saying facts in the documentary, as filler footage. We used it again as a smaller image in the TV listings magazine. We used this shot of a Police Officer as an expert interview. We then cut the outline of him and added a ‘Top Tips for Internet Safety’ section in the TV listings magazine to create continuity.
  4. Examples of consistent Producer names Examples from the TV listings

Examples from the Documentary This makes the product seem more professional through the consistency of names. As you can see, we have used nicknames for the Q&A to make the target audience feel more comfortable and involved.
  5. Examples of consistent Title Example from the TV listings Example

from the Documentary Example from the Radio Trailer The consistency of the title is very important as it needs to be reinforced in each ancillary text, to advertise the product and get the title in everyone’s minds. However, as you can see the TV listings and the Documentary title are not exactly the same, as in the Documentary we used a ‘4’ and in the TV listings we did not. This could be something to improve on as we would want to advertise the product by the exact name it is called.
  6. Consistency of target audience (15-25) (45-55) • We chose Channel

4 to broadcast our documentary, which mainly attracts teenagers. Therefore this targets the younger part of our audience. • We chose Heart FM as the radio station to advertise our documentary with a radio trailer. Heart FM has mainly an adult audience but targets both teenagers and adults. • We chose the Radio Times for our TV listings magazine as the target audience for the radio times is mainly adults, and therefore, this would help us to gain our chosen target audience as they would see this double page spread in the magazine. • In our radio trailer, we included sound clips of both adults and teenagers. In our documentary, we did interviews with both adults and teenagers and in our TV listings magazine we included images of both adults and teenagers. Therefore, throughout all three products we maintained a clear focus on our target audience and attempted to attract them in a consistent way.
  7. In conclusion… We attempted for all three of our products

to be consistent and for it to be obvious to people that they are linked. To do this, we maintained the same colour scheme, title, voiceover, music and images. In terms of creating a ‘brand identity’, I feel as though we could have made the link more obvious by adding an icon which represented our documentary, but I feel as though an audience would be able to find clear links between our products without this. In terms of our radio trailer advertising our documentary, I feel as though we could have improved on this. Out of the three products, I think the radio trailer was the least effective as it was a bit unclear at the start- including snippets from the documentary which the audience may not understand out of context. Therefore, if we were to re-do this I think we should make this easier to understand. However, I was happy with the rest of the radio trailer as it linked with the documentary due to the voiceover and background music. We also included the title of the documentary and the date/time it would be aired- which promotes the documentary well. Our TV listings magazine, in my opinion, was more successful in promoting the documentary, as it was clear and simple to read, containing all the correct information. It also included the name of the documentary and the date/time it would be aired. I think another good aspect of it was including images straight from the documentary- for example the image of the phone, which was the establishing shot of the documentary and therefore is an important and key shot, as well as the shot of the police officer, which reveals an idea of who we are interviewing in the documentary- this will excite the audience and make them want to watch our documentary.
