The screen door swings open. LILA (18), high pony tail, flip flops, painted nails, enters. She carries 2 large duffel bags. Four girls follow her. Each clutches a sleeping bag and pillow. MIA (7), red hair, wide eyes, rainbow crocs. CATE (7), blonde, preppy. KIKI (7) braided hair, sneakers, glasses. VICTORIA (7) curly hair, big smile. They are follow by ROWAN (19) baseball cap, hiking boots, denim shorts. She carries two duffel bags. Sweats. The door whacks her as it slams closed. Lila raises her arms high. Gestures around the cabin. LILA Welcome to crane cabin birdies! Isn’t it awesome? She leans in close to the kids. Looks around. LILA (CONT'D) Don’t tell the other campers, but this is secretly the best cabin. The kids beam. CATE Really? LILA Oh yeah. Big time. Cate turns to Rowan CATE Is she lying? They each drag a duffel bag to a different bad. Mia clutches her sleeping bag. Looks around. She walks to rowan. Puts down her sleeping bag. Taps Rowan on the leg. MIA Excuse me? ROWAN What’s up? Pulls out blue sheets covered in yellow stars. She hands them to Victoria. Lila points to a pencil case filled with markers in the duffel. LILA (CONT'D) These look cool. Do you like to draw? VICTORIA Yeah! LILA That’s great. You know you can draw on the walls in here right? Victoria’s eyes light up. LILA (CONT'D) You guys can draw or write whatever you want on the walls. As long as it’s camp appropriate. KIKI This wall says ‘poop butt’. Is that camp appropriate? Rowan thinks. ROWAN Yeah sure. Poop butt is okay. VICTORIA This one says ‘I came out of the closet in Crane cabin’. CATE There’s not even a closet in here. KIKI That doesn’t make sense. Lila and Rowan stifle laughs. LILA You guys are so right. Bumps into everything. CATE That looks fun! Cate crawls into her sleeping bag. LILA Hey hold on, lets focus on setting up out beds right now, ok? Lila goes to stop them. The door opens. Rowan and Mia enter. MIA I was looking for my duffel bag. ROWAN It’s right there, you see? Rowan points. MIA Oh! She unzips it. Pulls out her sheets. Cate’s sleeping bag covers her head. She runs into the wall next to Rowan. Falls over CATE Ow. ROWAN Oh geez, hey, lets get that off, okay Cate? CATE No it’s fun. Cate scrambles to her feet. She turns. ON Rowan stops in her tracks. Whips her head around to Victoria. Cate slams into the wall. ROWAN Oh Jesus Christ. Rowan helps Cate. LILA Where did you hear that word Victoria? VICTORIA It says it on that wall right here. Is it not camp appropriate? LILA It is definitely not. Lila hands Victoria a marker from her pencil case. LILA (CONT'D) Here, how about you fix that for me okay? Just cross it off or something. Victoria takes the marker. Lila turns to help Kiki. She is stuck in the corner in her sleeping bag. KIKI I can’t see. LILA Yeah I know, can you hold still- Lila removes the sleeping bag. Kiki tumbles to the ground. She screams. Jumps up. KIKI SPIDER! THERE WAS A SPIDER ON ME! She runs to Lila. Hugs her legs. Points to the corner. KIKI (CONT'D) Can you kill it? Rowan struggles to free Cate from her sleeping bag. Cate wiggles around. 5.
ROWAN Cate can you please just hold on For one second- Victoria hops down from her bed. Tugs on Lila’s shirt. Points to the wall VICTORIA Look, look, I fixed it! LILA Uh, hold on Vict- KIKI The spider! LILA I’ll get the spider, it’s okay let me just- Lila looks at the wall. It says ‘GUNT’. She blinks. VICTORIA It’s not the bad word anymore. LILA Well its.. its... KIKI IT CRAWLED UNDER MY BED!! Cate bursts out of her sleeping bag. She knocks Rowan over. CATE Let me see! She pulls an old flashlight from her duffel. Turns it on. Points it under the bed. CATE (CONT'D) Oh it’s so cute! KIKI Kill it! CATE No! Kiki runs to Cate. Grabs the flashlight. 6.
grabbing! KIKI After I kill it! LILA Careful! Kiki raises the flashlight. Cate lunges for it. Lila reaches for them both. The spider scurries towards Kiki. She screams. Swings the flashlight. It shatters. Sparks fly. They catch on Kiki’s sheets. EXT. CRANE CABIN - DAY Lila and Rowan stand alone in front of a burned husk of a cabin. A charred wooden sign says ‘CRANE CABIN’. It swings from one nail. Falls to the ground. ELISE (43) approaches. She is short, hair in a neat bun, square glasses. Carries a clipboard. A large ring of keys and a walkie talkie hang from her belt. Elise stops in front of the cabin. Looks it up and down. ELISE You know I stayed in this cabin as a kid? I wrote my name on the walls somewhere. She sighs. She turns to Rowan and Lila. They look at the ground. ELISE (CONT'D) You two did a good job getting the campers out safely. They look up. ELISE (CONT'D) But this was the fastest disaster in camp history. We usually make it past the welcome bonfire at least. LILA Well you know it was actually Kiki who started- 7.
