3. What is a Smart Nation?

5. What are some of the motivations?
6. 8,000 people per sq km

11. Health Care: Targeted, non-traditional settings, precision medicines, Just-In-Time interventions
12. Government Services: Centered around the citizen, delivered on the citizen's own terms
13. What would it be like to live a life in a Smart Nation?
14. Would it bring happiness to the Human?

16. Being able to move from one place to another in a safe and comfortable is nice
17. Being cared for medically in a pro-active and in an anticipatory manner would be Utopian, but doable
18. But, there are some fundamental energy costs
19. Sensors, communication systems, data repositories, analytics all impose heavy demands on energy
20. Technology is the basis of supporting a Smart Nation
21. Smart non-polluting renewable energy generation has to be a core pillar of a Smart Nation
22. Are we there yet with smart energy?

24. The unspoken challenge is one of keeping these technologies secure, current, updatable (plug and play)
25. At a national level, technological independence and reliance on open standards have to be front and centre
26. What's technological independence?
27. It's all about being able to design, build, empower, manage the tech needed to make the Smart Nation thrive
28. It's ensuring that, as a policy, all of the tech needed MUST have an Open Source Reference Implementation – without exception
29. What's an Open Source Reference Implementation?
30. An Open Source Reference Implementation would ensure that the knowledge of the tech will always be available in the open
31. Why?
32. At a national level, you cannot compromise your independence to closed source solution
33. So, with an Open Source Reference Implementation, you have the needed gold standard for continuity
34. The Soul of the Smart Nation
35. The Soul of the Smart Nation: It's knowing that you have control of your destiny
36. Which brings me to the three fundamental principles have to be adhered to in building a Smart Nation
