    College a. This is lead by Prof John McCarthy, and he invited Marvin Minsky, Claude Shannon, Nathaniel Rochester b. By the end of the workshop, which lasted 8 weeks, they coined the term "artificial intelligence" - no one liked it • Early AI programs: Logic Theorist and checkers-playing program
  8. What about AI? • Open Source Initiative has released a

    definition of “Open Source AI” - it has challenges • Open source IS the best and ONLY way to ensure that we can collectively manage safety and security and not be dependent on commercial/corporate interests. • Training data, code to models, weights etc must be openly available for developers to inspect, improve, adapt. 24
