1. Urban Street Mobile Tree Application for Toronto
2. Problems • City of Toronto released open data about the tree “population”, but there is not a simple way to consult it • Find a way to increase the people awareness about the trees and their benefits to the environment where they live, sensibilize them to the pollution problem and also give an opportunity to improve their “botanical” knowledge
3. Goal • Enable the user to learn more about trees in his neighbourhood • Facilitate the user in protecting the environment, giving him an opportunity to report problems or abuses against the trees to the City Services
4. Data sources • Street Tree Data from • http://www.toronto.ca/open, containing trees geolocation and botanical information • OpenStreetMap for the GTA base layer • Wikipedia API for tree species images and more botanical information
5. Our solution • Geovisualize data using Geoserver • Collect some information about the botanical species involved • Create a mobile-optimized website for data consulting
6. The result • User can see trees in the nearby on a map • Clicking on a tree will show information about the tree in particular (size, etc.) and his botanical specie • User can report abuses or problems of the trees using a quick-call function to City Services • User can also leave a comment referring a tree
