  1. POV The email-heavy (tech savvy) user needs to feel more

emotional satisfaction in dealing with email because they receive a constant flow of tasks and information that is difficult or impossible to manage. d. compress 2013 |Kamakshi, Luke, and Roxana
  2. Stress Model Energy Before opening email Anticipation of stressful content

Looking at full inbox Sensory overload of information Feeling a lack of control time After checking email Feeling drained
  3. TASK MANAGEMENT (treat email as a to-do list) AUTOMATION (trigger

automated responses or actions) DE-CLUTTERING (batching emails, unsubscribing) PRIORITIZATION (using algorithms to determine email importance) Gmail priority inbox Landscape of email services
  4. Existing Technology: 1. Does not address the social practices of

email, can only address your personal consumption 2. Reduces visual clutter, but does not address accumulation of tasks or provide a reward (ex: Mailbox, Boomerang, Pivotal Tracker) 3. Lacks user friendly UI: typically feature heavy and not discoverable (ex: Otherinbox) Trends in existing technology
  5. Most email services try to reorganize the flow and presentation

of information in the inbox. Since each person has their unique preferences and rituals when it comes to email management, these are not universal solutions. Opportunities We believe that there is an opportunity to strengthen people's ability to cope with the stresses of email by reinforcing and rewarding their work.
